shafts for irons?

Ive been wondering how stiff my iron shafts should be. Is it related only to swing speed, or just personal preference? Im considering a new set of forged musclebacks, and have been playing a stiff steel in my current irons, but I dont want to lose any of the feel that a forged club will give me because of too stiff of a shaft . Any ideas?

i'm lost on this subject as well. honestly i haven't gotten fitted, so maybe that's the problem, but...my current set of cg4 has the tt action light shafts in them. the other day, however, i went to my local shop and was messing around with different irons of the demo bags. all of them were stiff, and according to the monitor, my flight was better than with my regular set . i haven't brought my set in to do a comparison yet, so i can't be certain of anything at this time . if anyone can shed some light on this for me, that would be great...thanks.

swing speed is huge when finding a shaft that is right for you. if youre swing speed is in the 90s+ stiff will usually do the trick...however the very best player at my home course this guy swings pretty hard and shoot low, real low, uses regular flex dg r 300 shafts....he tried stiff and said all his misses were low and left. funny thing is he uses old school titleist blades from like 1990..but yes is all about feel and what u like better also ball flight is lower with stiff...you will not load a shaft that is too stiff and you will lose yards and accuracy..try them all out and by the law of avergaes youll eventually find the right one for you...side note though,,,i was fitted for project x 6.5s on the launch monitor by a well respected pro, had them ordered and my game suffered. now i play dgs300 and im happy. so, in the end its all about what works for you and your swing really.
