What is the best way to stick tees into frozen turf? All I had with me yesterday was a plastic divot tool and that only went in a little. I had a couple of pop-ups because of this. Yesterday was in the mid-30's over here after being in the teens the day before. I got through 10 holes before giving up. Should i carry a screwdriver with me? a drill? a jackhammer? or not play? What say ye?
I've never been a winter golf fan.
To me, once the ground's frozen, that's that.
But, if you enjoy it, more power to you!
As far as the tee thing goes, try this:
Go to a golf shop and purchase a few of the rubber tees they use for artificial turf mats at driving ranges. They come in a variety of lengths and you can also custom cut them to lengths that suit your needs. These have a large round base and sit quite nicely on the ground and they're large enough to be found easily even if struck by the club.
Since they sit ON the ground instead of IN the ground, you'll never have to worry about drilling any holes.
I went golfing for the first time in a few months yesterday and the ground was frozen also. I must have broke about 10 tees just trying to push them into the ground because all i had at the time were long tees! I just tried to find another hole that someone had previously used. It was pretty interesting trying to get some of them in at times.
Easy either do above with rubber tees, Use something like a punch or even easier yet grab an iron or FW wood heck the ground being frozen you could hit a long iron or FW wood just as far as a normal driver if not further.
Well wouldn't a broken tee put it about the height you want it? You could go really old school and make a tee with sand. For me, if the ground is frozen to the point to where you can't get a tee in, I'm not golfing anyways.
Golfing in artic conditions puts hair on your chest or you need hair on your chest to play golf in artic conditions. Not sure which. I decided if I am ever stupid enough to play in those conditions again I will bring a screwdriver and stab a hole in the teebox. By stab I mean a clean small hole in the teebox not a big mess.

I actually would stick the tee partly in the ground, then try and step on it square to the ground, and it seemed to work. 250 pounds on 1 point has a way of going through frozen ground lol.
