Ok, I decided to go with Taylor Made V Steel 3 & 5 fairway woods. All I've seen is positive reviews and the price is right(around $99). My question is should I go steel or graphite shaft? I'm a beginner/high handicapper. Golfsmith has the steel shafts for about $20 less than the graphite. Would the graphite help my swing speed?
I personally have never seen anybody play with a steel shaft in their woods. Irons, yes. But woods I don't know. I don't know how you play, ie. swing speed, etc., but if you're a beginner it might not be a good idea.

I've got the V-Steel 3 Wood w/graphite shaft. I am just returning to the game after a 5-year absence and the graphite shaft is no problem for me as long as I swing properly and don't get too quick from the top.
You'll come to love the V-Steel ... beautiful club, long and straight, and such a nice sound to it ... as long as I swing properly.
I try to keep one steel shafted fairway wood in my bag as the "go to" club when I need to keep it in play off the tee or fairway. Steel shafts are generally about one inch shorter than the equivalent in graphite, so you will give up about 5 yards but I find the inch difference makes it easier to control.
5 yards is 15 feet. Who cares? Just as with any shaft, proper fit and flex is paramount.
