bore thru design

hi guys, i was reading that callaway invented the bore thru design for golf clubs. what was the idea behind it. how does it help?

Here is what I have found.

I imagine that's going to quite a shock to those who were using bore-thru's long before Callaway Golf existed. I've got a set of 1965 Wilson Staff irons, so I can tell you for a fact that Callaway had nothing to do with inventing the design.
Callaway came up with the S2H2 design (short, straight, hollow hosel), so they could use more perimeter weighting in the clubhead instead of having the weight in the hosel.
