just wondering if anyone played these and liked them, i have a 20 handicapp and like to improve, would like to try forged to, and these are in my price range.
Id like something that is thin topline i hate the look of thick top lines.
gdel - I have had the Nike Pro Combo OS's for about five months now. I love the way they feel when you hit it on the sweet spot however the heads a smaller than your normal OS or game improvement iron so off center hits are not very forgiving.
My only issue with these as you may know from reading reviews of them is that the shafts (Speed step) are not very good. I play a stiff shaft and my Titleist have the Nippon shafts but the Nike's I always seemed to push to the left. I didn't have this issue with the Titleist so to make sure it wasn't my swing I took both to the course and sure enough it was not my swing but the shaft. Most people that have these have them reshafted with TT Dynamic Golds to also help bring down the trajectory. I'm not sure if I will go withthe DG or Dynolites. I plan on doing this especially considering the cheap price I got them for it will be well worth it.
As for the fit and finish these are one of the best I have seen. I like them alot but I think with better shafts I think I will love them.
I just bought them for 330 from tgw.com new. They were having memorial day sale two weeks ago.
My handicap is quite high, and I have always used regular flex graphite on oversize head. My last set being Mizuno cast (WIDEC 2) not sold here in the US, but it's very easy to hit, and soft.
My PC is the steel speed step, stiff flex. First time I took it out to the range, I had trouble hitting it flush, either fat, or thin. Second time I was hitting it no problem.
A lot of people say that it's soft and forgiving. My own experience is that the long iron 3, 4 are indeed soft due to the cavity back. But the mid irons, especially the short irons are hard, even pure hit on center of face, felt hard. I believe this is due to the metal shaft which does not absorb the vibration as graphite does. Perhaps better players want to have this feel, but personally, I could do with a little softness.
It is forgiving, off center hits do not cost distance so much, and not much twisting.
just came back from the range today. it's the third time since i got my pc os. i have to admit, it is growing on me. hit it further than with my previous club by about 5-10 yards and straighter. Still feel rather hard with the short irons (muscle back), the 5,6,7 are the blades and they feel softer. But what's nice are the long ones, 3, 4. They are soft and very easy to hit.
Although some people do not like to see the wide sole sticking out from behind the blade of the long cavity back irons, I kinda like it, as it looks and feels more like a hybrid than a long iron. Easy to hit, didn't dig when hit fat. Mid trajectory.
I have had the Nike Pro Combo OS for over 1 year now, and I love them. I am a 3 handicap, I use the Nike Speed Step steel in stiff, I was a little worried about these shafts because of the negative comments on the boards, but I thought I would try them before I re-shafted. They hit little higher than DGs, but the distance is equal if not better. I love the feel of a forged club, and these deliver as promised.
