Exclamation New Driver Tomorrow! (HELP)

Hey everyone. Been using my driver for 2-3 years, and its about time to buy into this new technology. I am a pretty good golfer. 16 years old. Usually just hit the long ball (319 is my best, at Crooked Stick Golf Course, where John Daly won his only major) Id say average is about 250-285. Anyways, I need a new driver and figured this would be an awesome time to get one. I am currently using the Titleist 905T (10,5 degree). Any advice on what to buy, or to demo in the simulaltor at Golf Galaxy. Money is not an issue here (I have TONS of trade in clubs, so this driver is basically free). Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

You may want to check this out. I did quite a bit of research and they have a very good reputation. http://www.advancedgolftechnology.com/aurora_driver.htm

And good luck with your search!

How much do the Aurora Drivers go for (in general) with standard shafts and grips?

I personally like to stay 1 release behind to get the most bang for the buck. I guess it depends on what you are looking for in a driver. It does not appear that more distance is needed. If that is the case, a square headed driver may straighten out your mis-hits. Titleist has 2 models coming out (1 square-like and 1 more traditional).

I've heard good things about the new Callaway drivers (FTi and FT5) and this also depends on your preference for driver look.

Lastly, I would recommend looking at the Taylor Made Burner TP. It is a bit longer in shaft and will give you some distance (if that is what you want). With the longer shaft, you probably would want a slightly lower loft and more stiffer shaft.

My last piece of advice would be to either get fit by an independent group (Hot Stix at Golfsmith) or some other group to find the best driver. Golfsmith is adding 30% to the trade right now through April 9. Focus on the shaft. This is the most important aspect of clubs today (in my opinion). The driver head should be comfortable for your swing and eye, but they all generally perform the same (with slight variations on spin).

$339. If you call, ask for Hank and tell him Sean referred you. He is very nice. i called him two different times and must have spent 45 minutes on the phone each time. He also said to try the club on the course and if the shaft wasn't right to send it back and they'd install a new one.

Cool

Any advice on what to buy, or to demo in the simulaltor at Golf Galaxy.

Never go by what a "simulator" tells you. That simulator is nothing more than a high price Nintendo game. If you want good data, hit ball on a launch monitor, not a simulator. The best thing for you to do would be to hit a lot of drivers on the launch monitor and see what works best for you. Try different lofts, shafts, and brands of drivers. After you find the one that works for you the best, buy that one. Don't let them sell you a different one still in the wrapper, you want the one you just hit ball with. DEMO and DEMO some more. That's my advice.

Amen to that, I was in Austin a few months ago and went to a golf galaxy there to waste some time I really wasn't planning on spending any money. While I was there I was walking through the used equipment section. A salesperson came up and started talking to me, I was only one of maybe 3 people in the store in the middle of the afternoon on a weekday. While we were chatting we started talking about different clubs and stuff and he told me that if it was in their used section I could just take it in the monitor and hit it. Needless to say I spent like 6 hours over two afternoons just hitting everything again just to pass the time. Well all the sudden for what I was seeing I could tell that I was not getting all I could get out of my R7 Draw. So I asked them if I could bring it in and compare it to other drivers. They said sure, I asked if I could bring in my balls to try out too just to make sure everything was great. Well after hours and hours of testing I found a club I hit 30 Yards farther than my R7 Draw. I tried Nike, Callaway, Cobra, Cleveland, and in all their models too. I was just about set to trade in my R7 Draw on a Cobra F Speed, which I was hitting awesome when I was walking by the rack and saw a R7 Quad TP 7.5 loft and a Speeder X-Stiff shaft. I looked at it and though what the heck I will just hit it and put it back on the rack. Too Low loft too stiff a shaft, too much club for me. WRONG WRONG WRONG. I was hitting it 285 and really straight on the their monitor nearly every swing. Well needless to say I now have that club in my bag, and until it breaks I can not see a change anytime soon. I am hitting at least 2 300+ yard drives a round and finding more fairways than ever. I am so used to an higher arc, the low flying bullet is a bit wierd to get used to I always think I am hitting on the heel until I watch it just go and go.
If you have a golf galaxy near you go and ask if you can try out their used clubs on their monitor. I bet they will let you hit everything they have which is pretty much everything out there. And then you can buy the used club or go buy a new one off the rack.

Ended up getting the Titleist 907 D2 (First ever stiff flex for me).

I launched it. Came in just a few hours ago. They said I was the first in Indianapolis to have one.
