Once I'm fitted, can I take my specs and shop around for the best deal on custom fitting?
Will they take a set off the wall and adjust it or will it be custom made?
Thanks, I just found out my clubs can't be adjusted and my 7 iron is off 2.5 degrees!
1) Why can't your clubs be adjusted?
2) If they take a set off the wall and tell you that it should fit then they are not true club fitters (without adjustments). Most sets should be custom made to fit the golfers but I have seen a good fitter take a set off the wall and adjust the loft, lie, length, and grip to fit the golfer (rare occasions).
3) I would assume you are OK to take your specs and go deal shopping but I would also expect for them to charge you for the fitting. When I do a fitting for a golfer, I will not charge them if they are purchasing from me and the value is over $200 but if they want to take that information and leave I will charge them because my time isn't free.
Thanks for the info. My clubs apparently are made of zinc, and the guy said they'll just break if they try to move them. I was in the market for new ones already, but I thought I'd try to get one more year outta these. Glad I tried since I found out they're off!
Burrows? They're Macgregors. Fitter told me they were once sold at discount stores, Walmart etc. I only bought em for $50, I'm ready for a new set.
Any suggestions on a good way to go about getting fitted for a decent set of clubs? Say Titleist, Cleveland, Calloway? They keep wanting to sell me the lower end brands, Innovex etc.
Your signature only says "Mac." I don't automatically think "MacGregor" when I see that. I think "Mac Burrows." Sorry about the confusion.
I know MacGregor made some real junk clubs a few years back. I think it still hurts their reputation as a top OEM. That they made some sets so cheap they used zinc instead of stainless, I didn't know.
The TM RAC OS2's can be bent (maximum of 4* I think, but check with a pro on that before you order them).
Almost any decent clubfitter is going to want to replace the OEM shafts, and spine align the new ones when he puts them in just to protect his reputation (because some OEM shafts are cheapies). That means you'll be paying for the set, a new set of shafts and grips (probably), and the cost of the fitting and labor. You might be better off just going to a good clubmaker and having a set custom made for you. You could also contact Christian at Solid Rock Golf to help get you set up. That, of course, is up to you.
Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
Ah man thanks for all the info. Exactly what I needed to know.
Yeah the Macs are a cheap set, I had no business buying them really. Learned a lesson, but I think I'll try out the custom set from the fitter. He let me hit a weighted club and it was heaven
You only live one time! If you find a set and there a bit more than you were looking to spend, DO IT!! Your serious enough to belong to a Golf forum buy what ever fits your eye and feels good, you wont regret it. There are some great components out there if you wnat to save some money.
