I agree. I do prefer a soft compression ball to get more distance, but a good low compression ball that will fly far is in the $25 price range for a box of 12 balls.
For the average golfer they really cant tell the difference, the only thing a good golf ball would do for the average player is inspire confidence so basically a pro v1 is useless to the average golfer, they would be better of buying a box of top flites or pinnacles and keeping their money in their wallet and spending it at the golf course or the driving range trying to improve their swing.
Re: is a good golf ball a "needed" element when playing.
i believe that even a decent player will play better with a better ball..first of all the ball does a world of a difference on your tee shot(compression and side spin) will lead to straighter shots and longer ones also..(get the ball with the right spin rate and lower compression) secondly chip shots are where you can really feel it, alot of the cheaper balls react not as consistant off the face and are hold to control on the greens, spin rate/control/feel is all sacrificed and we all know that is where the score comes from..next time you go out to play grab a cheap ball(top flite..) then a decent ball(noodle,nxt..) and then a high quality ball(nike platinum, pro v1..) chip and pitch with them all and you will definitely feel a difference and also see one too...

Me to kinda. I work at an $$$ country club. Its rare to see a memeber playing cheaper than an NXT tour. I find them all over the place. ProVs, HX tours, platinums the works
Re: is a good golf ball a "needed" element when playing.
yeah. we just take the ball retriever to a water hazard and get out like 50 balls lol. then we split the good ones between us. All I hit is like titlist, a lot of pro v1s, callaways, etc
Re: is a good golf ball a "needed" element when playing.
I am trying to save a little cash being I lose a lot of balls. I was surprized at how good the MaXFLI NOODLES are (the white ones). I was pleased with the distance an soft feel in the short game. And I can't put spin on the ball anyway. I will try the fire one's next.
The other cheaper balls like TOP Flite and Pinnacle are still like hitting rocks.

I just flipped from Titleist NXT's to Noodles ... can't tell the difference anywhere other than my wallet which is slightly heavier I'm a novice golfer, no spin required.
