Putter Loft and Lie Angle

I currently has a Yes! putter with the standard 2.5 degrees of loft and 71 degree lie angle. I am reading the Stan Utley "Art of Putting" book and am thinking of changing my loft and lie. Stan recommends most people would be closer to 5 degree with a 69 degree lie angle. Has anyone else changed their lie/loft? Best way to go about it? I did notice when I changed my setup according to Utley that the toe was slightly raised at address, which would indicate I would need to decrease my lie angle. But I don't feel as comfortable changing the loft as I would think Yes (as well as the other companies) settle on the loft they sell their putters at after extensive tests. My putter shaft is vertical at address. Any thoughts?

I was fitted for my putter so it works for me. I have 4-degrees of loft as I like to forward press, yet when I put the ball the club face is square at impact (the fitter video taped this in slow motion close up). He said the ball I putt begins rolling almost immediately.

IMHO I would suggest getting fitted. That would take the "guess" factor out of it for you.

Good luck!

Cool

When I build all my putters, I build them with 3 degrees of loft. I find that this works fine with the way I've designed my putters. The vertical center og gravity of the head will play a part in how much loft the putter should have for best proformance.

You would be right. The grooves on the yes putter faces means the ball will react very differently to a similar putter with similar loft. I think the yes putters are designed to have an "effective" loft of about 4 degree.

The reason I chose the Rife 2 Bar Putters is to change the loft myself. I experimented with various configurations before I settled with the lie angle and weight that I currently use.

I do like the Yes! putters and the Sophia has my eye ( if I find one at the store, I may have to grab one).
