I'm looking for a lower priced driver. I see TGW has these on sale. $179 for the R5 and $129 for the 580. Can anyone give me reviews on these as far as playbility, distance, etc. I'm a beginner/high handicapper.
The R580XD is still a solid driver, even though it is 3-4 year old technology, a great value at $149 at Dick's or elsewhere.
Solid driver, I hit it pretty straight and get about 210-220 consistently on my drives...real life yardage in real life on course conditions, and I have driven as long as 240 before on 2 occasions. I am usually in the fairway with this driver.
I usually score in the 90's.
I've been playing less than a year. My first driver was the R5. I absolutely love it. I had it reshafted with a Grafalloy pro launch blue and it is perfect now.
Even stock, you will not be disappointed with either of those drivers.
I have an R5 and I love it. Ball goes straight and I hit it as far as I've ever hit anything else and most of the time further. I think there is a fair bit of forgiveness in the face. I play the stiff shaft with the neutral bias. Great club and worth the money in my books.
I have a R5 draw and have no complaints. Bought new of ebay from rockbottom golf for $133 plus shipping. It came with a Graffoly Blue shaft. It took me a while to get one this cheap, lots of lost auctions. I was always fighting a slice and now my misses are hooks. I never owned a brand named driver before this one so I can't compare it to any other brand name drivers.
I went ahead and ordered the 580XD from tgw.com for $129. It came yesterday. I love the look and feel of it. Can't wait to get out this weekend and try it out.
let us know how it works for you...a friend of mine had one (it might've been a 540, so this isn't completely indicative of the quality) and hated it...then got a 905T and hated it...
