The MOI of the square drivers are indeed higher than anything that has been made manufacturered in the last few years. There were actually some small component makers of square drivers in the late '80s. But, the square drivers have the highers MOI of anything made by the big OEMs, including the moveable weight drivers.
However, there is a law of diminishing returns when it comes to MOI. The jump from 2,000 to 3,000 (g-cm^2) was very signifcant. This was the Big Bertha era. But the jump from 3,000 to 4,000, which would be around years 2001-2002ish wasn't nearly as significant. Last year's 460cc models were around 4,300. The square models haven't quite gotten to 5,000 yet. But, the increase at this point does not really add significany playability. The manufacturer's love to claim how much better they are, but the actual facts are that as regarding the playability of the club, it isn't too big of a deal. The limit the USGA set is 5,900, but again, because of the diminishing returns, there may actually never be a driver made to the max. It just won't improve the situation that much.
Rather, you should play the driver you are most consistent with, the one you like the best. There aren't really going to be much improvement in terms of forgiveness unless the USGA changes the rules.
