What should I buy???

I'm a beginner...

I took a golf course in college a couple years ago, really liked it, but borrowed clubs for the class.

I'm looking to buy a full set and I don't want to spend over $300. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Travis

Cool

First thing I'd recommend is that you "don't buy a full set of clubs". Buy a set of irons, buy a driver and a few woods and putter if you want. But don't buy a "full set". Not a set of 14 clubs for one price, All those sets of junk, with a capital JUNK. Contact one of the site sponsors here, and see what they can do for you.

yeah that rocksoldgolf or whatever it's called that sponsors the site can get you a full set (not all the same name/model/whatever) for roughly $300...or much less

or you could go on ebay and get Hogan CFTs or the Nickent 3DX Hybrid Iron sets for a steal ($200 max I think, but don't quote me on those Nickents...)

I agree with OnePutt on not buying a full set of anything. As far as irons go, I'm a big Hogan fan, so I'm going to recommend the CFT's. You can probably find a good used set of those for around $300 or less. Then get a slightly older-generation driver and 3-wood. Pick 'em up used and you'll save a bunch of dough.

I agree to go with Solid Rock Golf. Component clubs are very good and a lot cheaper than OEM (big brands). I have a Snake Eyes hybrid and sand wedge, and an SMT Durometer. Very good clubs.

There's nothing wrong with components, or go for the older OEM offerings. Stuff that was all the rage 3 or 4 years ago, can now be had on closeout for half the price (or less!!) Adams,Taylormade or Cobra have great GI Irons from a few years ago that can be had for $300.00 or less. If you're just starting out a used set, say 7-PW would work great. Find a fitter though, off the rack purchase more often than you think, leaves you with built in problems (wrong lie angle or shaft length, flex). Demo everything and have fun doing it.
