Irons with adjustable weights.

The new Tommy Armour 845 irons have an adjustable weight built in. Is this a first for irons?

The adjustment is marketed as an adjustment of the sweet-spot of the clubs. For example, if a golfer tends to hit a certain iron towards the toe, he/she would move the weight, and sweetsot there. From what I have read it is not intended as a trajectory correction/adjustment (e.g. anti slice) device.

Re: Irons with adjustable weights.

I'd love to hit these -- I believe that moving the weight HAS to adjust the flight - i.e.: right to left or left to right or at least make them push or pull the ball. Might be helpful for those who consistently puull the ball -- or those who push it. I'm also relatively sure they will be legal to play, but not adjust during play.

They are legal, but you are not allowed to adjust during the course of play. To answer the other questions, no these are not the first irons with adjustable weight. Ralph Maltby introduced the KE4 irons a few years back that have two weight ports in the head that allow for different weights to be installed.
