I have been playing MacGregor 1025c forged irons. I am a 13 handicap. I just purchased a set of Nike Slingshot irons 3-pw. My wife says one set's gotta go!!! The only problem is I have broken wrist and I can't hit the Slingshots to see if I like them. Any of you play Slingshots? Any of you played both? Just looking for a little advice. I got a deal on the Nikes. Sasquatch driver, 3-pw Slingshots, 52-56-58-62 degree wedges for $400. The Macgregors I have pieced together since getting serious about golf 2 years ago. I have V-foil driver and 3 wood and 1025 3-pw 52-56-60 degree wedges. HELP ME PLEASE!!!
I loved those 1025 MacGregors. I played the 1025M's for a couple years and they were the easiest blades I ever played. The Slingshots are totally different clubs. You'll almost feel like your hitting woods when you hit them. Keep the Sasquatch driver and the MacGregor irons. The old V-Foil drivers are leagues behind the Sasquatch technology wise.
I'd keep the Macs...to me the only thing Nike has going for it is Tiger. Without paying hundreds of millions to Tiger and all his endorsements and hype, Nike would be just another sporting goods conglomerate. Today we make shoes, and tomorrow let's make golf clubs and next week, bowling balls...that's my opinion of Nike. MacGregor Golf has been around for generations and has earned their status. I just have more respect for that name, I guess. I would feel the same way if Singer Sewing Machine company hired a basketball star, hyped him up and suddenly started selling high priced basket balls....what the heck could they know about basketball? (Singer made Colt .45 auto pistols during WW2, but that's another story).
Nike is good. Tiger used to be their only pro tour draw. KJ Choi won twice this year. Paul Casey is high on the world rankings. Rory Sabbatini of all people has won tournaments. Steward Cink isn't all that bad. Anthony Kim is a great up-and-coming player. Nike has a great tour representation and great club design. They're in the same category as Acushnet (Titleist, Foot Joy, Cobra, etc...), Adidas (Talyor Made, Rossa, Adidas Golf), and Callaway (Callaway Golf, Top Flite, Spalding, Ben Hogan).
i wouldn't choose the slingshots... i play with the pro combo forged irons and i love them... if i were you i would choose something like the cci irons... to keep with the leading edge that you already have with your macgregor 1025c
