FT-i

I am looking to get a new driver next year. I currently play an FT-3 with an Aldila NVS stiff and my swing speed is about 105. My ballflight is like a bajillion miles in the air, and I'd like to lower it.

I was hitting the diamana blue board stiff 73gram with an FT-i head, and it would again do nothing but just launch in the air.

So my question is, should I look at an X-Stiff shaft, with high launch characteristics? Such as the Diamana Redboard? I know I should go and try them out, but Id just like to see some opinions.

Thanks.

Re: FT-i

The Aldila NVS is designed like a Grafalloy ProLaunch Blue, to hit the ball higher.

Personally, I don't get a super-high ball flight with the Mitsu/Rayon Diamana Blue 73. I've hit it with a FT-5 8.5* neutral head in X-Stiff.

If you want to lower your ball flight from the NVS, look at...

Grafalloy Blue, ProLaunch Red, ProLite 35
Aldila NV (green), VS Proto
Graphite Design Pershing 75
Fujikura Speeder 757

In general, an X-Stiff shaft with a 105 MPH swing speed would be slightly overspined. Aldila's X-Stiff flex starts at 110 MPH (recommended swing speed). I think a stiff flex in a shaft with a high bend point would do the trick.

Re: FT-i

Check out the FT-i Tour, with a 9.5* loft. The Tour version might suite your game a bit better. Also would be a good idea to hit some balls on a launch monitor and find out exaxtly what your launch angle and back spin rate is. It's been my experience that most golfers that say they hit the ball too high with their driver, in fact hit the ball too low for maximum distances. Get on a launch monitor and find out exactly what you're doing, and go from there.
