I've played this ball and liked it. It's not my first choice but it did seem to be good for distance and feel. It's got a pretty soft cover and reacted well on the greens. I have a low trajectory to start with and I didn't get any unusually high loft from it....but I did get good distance.
Also, my swing speed is only around 92 or 94 - if you're swing speed is over 100, maybe it does balloon b/c of that.....I don't really know.
Padraig still uses a ProV-1x, so that should tell you something about Wilson's golf balls. Not that they're bad balls, but even their best (and only really good) pro doesn't like them.
Are you talking about a high ball flight, or ballooning? I must be the only golfer that has never had a ball balloon on him. I play tour quality balls, use a 12* driver, have a swing speed of up to 118, average 107, have a launch angle of 14 to 15 degrees, and I have never had any ball balloon on me. You must be doing something wrong if your'e having a problem with ballooning.
all I'm saying is the ball goes way higher and shorter distance with the wilson than other balls I have played. I don't think I'm using a different swing on the wilson than the others. If I was doing something wrong, wouldn't it happen with every ball i use?
Not all balls spin as much, and not every ball will generate as much lift with that spin, as others. This is why some balls fly higher than others. I tested the Nike One Black and Platimun awhile back, and the Black had a much lower ball flight than the Platimum. Even with a mid iron shot on a par 3, it was quite easy to see the difference in ball flight. This could be exactly what you are seeing with the TX4 ball. What I was getting at in my last post, is that there is a hugh difference between a high ball flight, and one in which the ball actually balloons. A high ball flight can be very good for your game, while a ball that balloons isn't too good at all. Also, if a golfer hits down on the ball with a driver, they will impact more backspin on the ball than if they swing level or up at the ball. And if the ball is a high spin ball, this can mean way too much backspin for good distance. And this could be what you are getting with the TX4. The dimple pattern can have a big effect on how much lift is created by the spin, so there are lots of factors that effect ball flight. Some of the higer spin balls, have a low lift dimple pattern to help prevent ballooning, and it works rather well. The MaxFli M3 LT is one example of such a ball. HIgher spin than the M3 Tour, but with a low lift dimple pattern, which gives the LT a lower ball flight, even with the higher spin rate. I hope this clears things up a bit. With the TX4 ball, are you getting higher ball flight and shorter distance with your driver, or with your irons, or both ?
This information might help clear up the picture a bit also.
I played with him that day and the driver was not really affected, but off the irons the ball was high and into the wind it would balloon. Normally we are the same distance, but with this ball he was a half to a full club shorter. I kept commenting on the high ball flight and figured it must be the ball off the irons. He did had some nice grip on the greens. I am figuring that the way he pinches the ball, he needs to stick to the Pro V-1.
