Club fitting with pre-existing clubs (off the shelf clubs)?

With the big talk of custom clubs as being the trend this year, II went to Masterfit Ltd which is a custom clubfitter. I don't plan to buy a new set of clubs.

I have 2 sets of forged irons (Hogan Apex Edge and Miz Mx-900). Should I go through the $45 45 minute evaluation to make sure that my clubs fit me? Is it truly necessary to do the evaluation?

Isn't the only thing that they can change on pre-existing clubs is the lie angle? Aside from recommending different shafts which would cost a bundle.

I cant believe it cost you guys to heve your clubs checked?!?!

Over here we have a chain of shops called American golf (no,honest) you can take your clubs in there they will check you against them for loft, lie and length including correct size of grip, even if you dont take them up on their recommendations its 100% free. Should you take there advice they refinish your clubs back to factory condition when they are carrying out the alterations.

If you are reluctant to follow through on the results of the fitting, by accepting the fitter's recommendations there is lilttle point in having the evaluation. In that case the fitting would only be useful if you happen to 'luck out' and they somehow confirm that your current set is perfect for you: You would have bought some confidence. However, if they do find out that the shafts are wrong for you, and you are not willing to change them, then you have just purchased some doubt!

So if you are only willing to have them adjust the lie-angle, have them test just for that. It should be cheaper than the full fitting.
