which I think is pretty cheap. I want a softer cover ball, like the pro-v1 and I think the platinum is the one, but not sure really..
Whats the difference between the two?
"The One Platinum is designed for Tiger or someone similar to him," says Rock Ishii, Nike's product development director, golf balls. He adds, "It's for the guy who wants total performance in terms of feel, spin around the green and ultimate shot-shaping control, and who isn't worried about distance. The ball is best for fast swingers with a shallow attack angle [like Tiger]. Those with slower head speeds won't achieve the same efficiency because they won't compress the ball as well."
The Nike One Platinum was about 10 yards shorter than any other ball they robot tested. The above was Nike's response to why the Platinum "came up short". If it was me, I'd go with the Black, but I need the extra distance. If you have swing characteristics similar to the above quote, go with the Platinum...and get off the computer and onto the PGA Tour
From someone that has used both extensively, I like each of them.
If you need more spin, and aren't concerned with a little lost distance, go with the Platinum. It's a 4 piece ball, and spins like you wouldn't believe.
The Black is a 3 piece ball, and is very controllable. If conditions are soft, I'd go with these.
I actually prefer the Ignite. Good distance, control, and "spinability" all in a ball that's $10-$15/dozen cheaper than either Nike One ball. The cover is the limiting factor with the Ignite though, so be aware that it abrades more easily than either of the Ones.
I tested both ball side by side for 18 holes. For me, I was hitting the balls the exact same distance on average over 14 drives. The Black has a lower ball flight with my irons, and the Black spins less for me. If you want more spin to hold greens go with the Platinum. I like the Platinum for the added spin around the greens.
In my personal tests i found for me that the platinum was longer and straighter then the pro v1. Between the black and platinum i go with platinum but thats just me. On nikegolf.com they have a simple 3 question test that tells you which ball they think you should hit.
Does anyone know if Mickleson was playing the new Tour i ball this week. He sure was spinning the ball back a bunch. He spun one ball back a good 40 feet. I wish I could do that.
