Replacement for 1 iron

I've been needing to replace my 1 iron for a while now but i'm not sure which club to replace it with. I'm looking to get a hybrid that will go about the same distance as my 1 iron. I've been looking for number 1 hybrids in my local pro shops but I can't seem to find any. Has anyone got a club/manufacturer they can recomend? I've got a taylor made 3 wood just now that I really like so if I was going to just buy one, i'd get a taylor made, but i'd only be buying it because of the manufacturer.

If anyone can help me out with some advice, that would be great.

Not sure what you expect distance wise but here is the rescue hybrid from TaylorMade has 15* and 17*.
I'd be more open to other makes and especially anyone with the rounded leading edge for versatility.

Don't be fooled bud... it's rare, but people still use 1 irons.

Re: Replacement for 1 iron

I use a taylormade mid rescue 16 degree, which is equivalent of a 2 iron.
The dual model comes with a 15 degree loft which is the closest I have seen.

I've been replacing all my clubs slowly over the last few years as the clubs I was using were really old. I hadn't really been playing that much for 6 or 7 years so hadn't bought anything new for a long time. The 1 iron is the last of the old clubs to go. The reason for replacing it is that it's the least user friendly club I have by a long way. When all my clubs were old I didn't notice a difference but now it's very noticable. It's a Ping Eye 2 so it's out of date by quite a few years. Hopefully I can find a good hybrid to replace it.

Were they all Pings? Have you been selling them off one by one?

No, it was just the 1 iron that was Ping. Still got all the old clubs, wouldn't get much if I sold them.

Thanks. That Ping Eye 2 iron is a beauty. If you lived alot closer I'd be more'n happy to take it off your hands.

OK thanks! I will be going out with an all iron/wedge/putter bag this coming season, including a 1 iron. The courses I play are so short that I might not even need it. Part of the reason I went that way was the confidence that I had built up with this $30.- club:

Northwestern TS 835 Driving Iron from Pro Select Europe

A 17* oversize driving iron. I love that thing. Hits long, is very forgiving, and has the best impact sound I have ever heard! Very easy to hit off the tee, but it doesn't setup nicely on grounded balls, for me anyways. You might want to try it. If not, good luck with your search for a hybrid.

Re: Replacement for 1 iron

Replacing an Eye 2, I'd think a 16* hybrid would be the most you'd want, possibly even as low as a 20*, or 21*. My 18* hybrid (marked as a 3h) was more of a 2 iron replacement for my old Wilson Staff irons than a 3i replacement.

Re: Replacement for 1 iron

For me, 2 iron means 18-20* of loft, a one iron from 15-17*...there are plenty of hybrids out there that fit those profiles...the last line of tm rescue dual tp has a 14*, and sonartec carries a 15* with bendable hosels for lower lofts if you find it necessary...I have a pair of tm rescue dual tps at 22 (marked 4) and 19 (marked 3)...I find them both to be more comparable in distance to the iron one step up in number rather than as marked...
