Having someone else pick your putter for you is probably only slightly less dangerous than having someone else pick your wife. Try everything you can get your hands on, and go with what feels right and works for you. Try not to get caught up in marketing and tour hype.
You gotta go and try a bunch of different ones out for yourself. What works for me may not work for you. For instance, do you like blade putters or mallet putters. There are a bunch of really good ones out there. Taylor Made and Odyssey make great putters as far as I'm concerned. I have a TM Rossa Conza - the mallet.....and I love it. I used to use a the Odyssey 2 Ball and I really liked that one as well....I also used to use a Ping Anser which at the time I though was the best. Equipment changes and so does ones taste, so I don't think anyone here can tell which one is the best for YOU. That's something you're gonna have to figure out for yourself.
Trying to get everyone's and seeing what kind of putters they use or have tested. Looking to purchase a new putter. Feel is everything for me.
Like others have said, try them out!
One other comment: Some putters (for example the heavy-weight 'contraption-style' putters) are designed for a straight-back straight-through stroke while other putters (lighter, smaller, heel-shafted models) work better when moved on an arc. Find something that works with your stroke: Of course this will become apparent when you actually try them out, so you may ignore this comment!
I love my scotty but a buddy of mine got a ping anser karsten series for $80 brand new on ebay and its a great putter, sets up nice, feels nice, and wont break the bank.
If feel is everything, get ready to fork out the big bucks. And if you're doing that, check out the Bettinardi BC1 and the Ping Redwood Anser. Two putters I didn't think I would like that were just butter to me. The Bettinardi was my favorite one that I tried but I can't justify spending that much on a putter (at least right now) so I went with the Ping Karsten series Anser and love it. But like everyone else has said, you absolutely must try before you buy.
This putter has the ultimate in feel. Better than any plastic/polymer/urethane insert out there.
My wife plays this putter. I steal it from her every chance I get.
If you think that putter has the best feel, you might really like my putter. It's made off all wooden parts. Extremely high MOI as well. My bet would be it has a higher MOI than the Louis 3, going by the photo shown on their site.
