Im a new golfer and have only had one set of clubs, a cheap Inferno set that I bought a few weeks ago to start off. Its served me well thus far but it didn't come with a driver and my 3 and 5 woods are kinda busted up. Any suggestions on a good beginner driver that won't break my bank? as well as woods? Thanks for the help!
yes, go to solidrockgolf.com ask him some questions and he'll get you a nice very cheap driver..they're very good drivers.. his name is christian Gammon and tell him doug stroupe sent you to him.
Honestly, if I was a beginner I wouldn't buy anything online. Go to your local shop and swing some clubs on the launch monitor. Find out what works best for you.
go to golf galaxy or dick sporting goods if there is any around you they both have swing monitors.. go hit some clubs there..choose the clubs that feels best to you
I'm not sure what you're budget is, but they're sure to have something to fit it.
Funny, I just got a newsletter this morning from Rock Bottom and they're featuring 1/3/5 wood sets from Wilson (Deep Red) and Adams (Tight Lies) for $99. 10% off coupon code Slick10Off gets it delivered to your door at just about $100.

It's hard to beat that deal. I wouldn't worry too much about getting fitted with a launch monitor. What's most important is a club you feel comfortable swinging, and truthfully, as an absolute beginner, probably any decent clubs are fine for a while. I would say get the 1/3/5 wood package for $100.
Club fitting is of course very beneficial, as is finding the most comfortable clubs for you to swing ... but if you are just starting to play, neither of these considerations is really very important. The reason is that if you take the game seriously and play quite a bit, maybe get some lessons, your swing will most likely be much better and vastly different in a relatively short period of time. Suppose you find a driver, 3 and 5 woods that fit you great and are comfortable to swing but cost you $400 for the 3. I would suggest spending the extra $300 on lessons would be more valuable than having the perfect club right now ... and the perfect club now is unlikely to be the best fit once you become a better golfer.

I would agree with Golf Galaxy or Golfsmith, but I have been to three Dick's Sporting Goods and can not find anything nice to say about the golf section at any of them. The guys that work there did not know much about the equipment, and nothing about fitting clubs for people.

This is a very good point. I play a driver I bought on-line from Solid Rock Golf and it's the best thing I've bought, golf-wise. For half the price of a Taylor Made or Callaway driver, I've got a perfect fit and a club I love. BUT, I have a great idea of what fits me. I fit people for clubs for 5 or 6 seasons in a pro shop and for the longest time, I ate, slept, and defocated golf equipment.
If you buy on-line, you want to get a demo sent to you so you can determine if the club is right for you. I can look at an iron and tell by the size of the cavity, the distribution of the weight in the head, the offset, the top line, etc. if I am going to like it and if it will fit my game. Same with drivers and fairway woods. I know what I like, but as a beginner, you probably do not.
If you posted some info on your current driver and current ball flight patterns, we can probably get you in the proper direction.

I couldn't agree more.
eggolf is one of the High School guys that hangs out at the Shop/Range just about everyday. He's got alot of potential of being a Great Golfer!!!
Come to think of it... I think he's posting while in Class.

I thought that too - untill I went to the Dicks in Cumming, GA - they rocked.. both pro's who worked there helped me out big time. I broke a shaft friday, went in there to buy the parts to re-shaft it myself and the pro was like - well bring your club in - they hooked me up along with re-gripping all my clubs in less then 1 hour - the one they reshafted was perfectly setup the local 2 dicks to me are horrible..
