Light Shafted 46" drivers

I am bidding on an Adams Insight A3 XTD golf club and I was wondering if anyone has any swing changes that they have used to adjust to the longer shaft and lighter shaft that they want to share? I think the Taylor Made Burner is similar to this club.

I don't think I have a wide swing arc to take full advantage of this longer shaft, but I was curious if people try to get a stiffer or less stiff shaft when they purchase a club like this.

Re: Light Shafted 46" drivers

Cut it down to 44.5".....There is absolutely no reason to play a 46" driver. If the guys who get paid to play don't play drivers this long.... why would anyone think that they will benefit from them. I have an A3 and hit it for a month at 46"...cut it down and hit it just as far, the main difference was the dispersion....much, much tighter.

And don't worry about the shaft playing stiffer....cutting from the butt end won't make a difference worth worrying about. The SW will be affected, I play it like it is and don't mind at all. You would have to try it for yourself and see if you care.

Re: Light Shafted 46" drivers

In theory, the longer lighter shaft is supposed to give you more distance, from a higher swing speed. But in the real world, I doubt you'd notice any gains. Last spring, 2007, I did a test with 3 drivers with different weight shafts. I hit balls with a 55 gram, a 65 gram and a 75 gram shaft driver. With all 3 shaft weights, my swing speed was the same, right at 105MPH. This may not hold true for others, but with my swing, I didn't gain a thing from the light 55 gram shaft, and I didn't lose anything with the 75 gram shaft.
As for length, the best thing for you to do is hit some balls with it as is, and hit some balls with a 3 wood. Then measure your swing speeds with both. My guess is your 3 wood speed will be real close to what you get with the 46" driver.
