Cleveland CG14 wedges

Any comments good or bad on this new line of wedges from Cleveland with "Zip Grooves"? I need a new sand wedge and was eyeing the CG14 in the shop.

As long as I'm asking for questions, here's another one in connection with wedges. My PW is 48 degrees. I also carry a 60 degree wedge. Right now my existing sand wedge is 56 degrees but I'm wondering about using a 54 degree wedge as my "sand wedge". If I put a 54 degree wedge in my bag then there is an evenly dispersed 6 degrees between the PW (48 deg), the SW (54 deg) and the lob wedge (60 deg). Anyone thing this is a decent idea or should I keep my sand wedge at 56 degrees? The Cleveland CG14 comes in both 54 and 56 degrees.

Thanks!

In the Bag:
Ping G2 10 degrees w/Aldila NV 65
Nike T-60 3- and 5-wood
Nike CPR 22 degree
Ping G5 4-PW
Nickent 56 degree wedge
Titleist Vokey 60 degree wedge

Re: Cleveland CG14 wedges

I have a CG14 gap wedge, 52* bent to 51*. I really like it, I don't know if the grooves make any difference with it. My CG12 56* sand wedge, on the other hand I can tell the difference with. I tried using a 54 and a 60, but I always had issues with the gap between my PW and 54* not being filled properly and having to get creative with my pitching wedge. Now that I have a true gap wedge back in my bag I don't have those issues anymore.

That is a pretty broad statement and you did not really back it up, can you explain further. While I like Vokeys I find them to be a little light and way too soft. I tried them a few years ago and wrecked the grooves in less than a year. I seem to get more life out of Cleveland and Mizuno wedges. As far as spin goes I would like to see the numbers between the spin milled and the zip grooves, I think the Zip grooves spin a bit more. Of course I have not used a Vokey in a while so as my swing has changed maybe I would spin them a bit more too. One definate plus I can say without a doubt, the bigger grooves on the CG12/14 are easier to keep clean than the Vokeys ever were.
