Right now I do not have a sand wedge. I just use my A wedge that came with my nike slingshot iron set. I am the first to admit that I **** out of the sand traps. Would actually having a sand wedge help out a little bit. I really don't even know the loft size on the A wedge that I have now.
I am trying to get a decent selection of clubs, so I do not mind spending the money on purchasing a sand wedge.
A sand wedge is specifically designed to hit the kind of shot that is required in the sand. Because it has a large bounce angle/flange on the bottom, the club will tend to glide through just a thin layer of sand instead of digging into the sand. This allows the ball to ride on that thin layer that gets shot up and out.
If you play courses that have sand, having a sand wedge is really a must. It is one of the few specialty clubs that are designed significantly different than the other clubs. (Putter and driver are the other two, in my opinion). Even if you don't have any other wedges (and people will have anywhere from 2 to 5), I think that a sand wedge is an absolute must if there is any chance at all of ending up in the sand.
No way to test wedges other than trying playing partners clubs...if you are new to the game pretty much any quality wedge will suffice...my personal preference is titleist sm wedges, but I played cleveland for years (588) and those were fine wedges as well...
...without looking I'd guess that the aw that came with the set is around 52* and the nike lob that you have is 6* of bounce give or take a little...I'd look for a 55-56* wedge with 12-14* of bounce...I personally play a sand wedge with less bounce for more all around versatility, but I have a 14* in the closet that I use when I play courses with fluffy sand, super soft conditions or when my sand game is struggling (14* is easier to use as a sand wedge than a lower bounce option especially in soft sand and can be used to ride soft turf conditions as well)...
Might as well go with another nike if the lob feels good to you...they have s400 shafts in them and unless you reshaft an off the rack OEM wedge the weighting and feel will be different...I played a nike wedge for a round (a friends loaner) and thought it was a very good wedge; certainly good enough to not have to look over your shoulder thinking that you're missing out on performance, which won't really be apparent anyway for another 15,000-20,000 practice balls...

Thanks
Definitely need one in the bag obviously for sand but also for thick rough around the green. I actually use my sand wedge for most chip shots.
I have an Adams Faldo wedge which has mulitple bounce angles. I saw it on an infomercial years ago and was thought it was just a gimmick. I ran into someone at a tournament and tried during a round and liked have been using one since.
Get a sandwedge. Not only very useful out of the sand, but it also fills what is probably a sizeable distance gap between your LW and AW. Your shortgame may improve in more ways than one, once you get one, and start using it.
