Beginner buying clubs...

I use to play a little few years ago.. and I want a good enough set of clubs until I am under 10 handicap then I will invest in really good fitted clubs..

I'm wondering until then.. are these 'complete sets' any good ie at walmart etc..??

Top-Flite Tour Edition 17-pc Golf Club Set | Canadian Tire

this is the one I had in mind.. I use to have a Wilson set that wasn't bad.. and i've seen John Daly ones in all the department stores..

thanks in advance guys

Re: Beginner buying clubs...

NONE of those complete sets are very good. NONE of them are good enought to use until you get to a 10 handicap. I'd say they aren't good enough FOR A RANK BEGINNER, much less someone looking to get down to a 10.

I'd recommend you buy a decent set of IRONS to start with, and then add some woods and a driver. You can buy some good irons for under $300 if you know what to buy. And you can get last years model of woods and drivers for as little as $119 for a Cleveland XLS driver now.

If you plan to keep playing, do not buy any from walmart or any other similar store. Your best bet is to buy closeout models from the previous year from edwin watts or golfsmith. You can also get great deals on ebay if you review the seller very carefully.
