Re: Is the bend in the shaft in this picture real ?
The above effect (bent spokes in wheels) is a bit more difficult to explain, so I won't even try, but it is caused by the camera moving with the riders, in addition to the wheel rotation.
Re: Is the bend in the shaft in this picture real ?
it is absolutely real. i've videoed my swing and have seen the same thing happen with my steel and graphite shafts even when they were trimmed to X flex by PCS Equalizer numbers. guess i gotta go to XX! i swing my 7i at 85mph and have a late release (about waist level) even with a smooth transition. believe it (the pic). my swing can be seen at WE DO NOT ENDORSE THE ABOVE PRODUCTS But we do offer personally fitted golf clubs and club repairs - Shaft Fitting
draw a line thru my grip to the ground and compare that with where the clubhead is contacting the ball. that is a bent shaft at impact not an optical illusion.

It is not an optical illusion. It is a shortcoming of the way the camera collects image data, line-by-line, from top to bottom, so that your head is photographed earlier than your feet are photographed (and your grip earlier than your clubhead, in the lower part of your swing).
But who needs a good camera, when you can have a strobe light: This is Bobby Jones swinging a 2 iron, under a strobe-light:
With a strobe-light (emitting a series of equally-spaced (in time) ultra-short bright light flashes) the camera doesn't need to be sophisticated or fast (in fact the shutter will be open the whole time): The action is frozen by the short light pulses, and there is not enough light to capture the action in between flashes (which would make the image a big blur). Not much bending in Bobby's shaft (I don't know what the shaft flex (or material!) is in the above picture).
Nice smooth swing also! I wonder what mine would look like if someone turned on a strobe-light at the top of my backswing!

Fellas
These images are real and show what should be happening to the club during the golf swing. The shaft also bends down at impact, lowering the toe of the clubhead. If your shaft does not do this, you are using an inappropiate shaft...too stiff. The clubhead is travelling faster than your hands, causing the tip of the shaft to bend forward. Its all that physics stuff. The butt of the shaft is bent in the opposite direction because of the forceful downswing imparted by you.
Re: Is the bend in the shaft in this picture real ?
I am curious to find out whether or not those of you that believe that the extreme apparent bends in the club-shafts are reality, also believe that the bent spokes in post #16 are reality.....
Re: Is the bend in the shaft in this picture real ?
That's the shaft kicking forward. It's real alright, but I have never seen it that exaggerated. I was told that it has to do with the shaft torquing itself during release.

That's because it's caused by the camera. It may kick forward some, but not to the extreme showed in the pics, it's an optical illusion.
