OK, there are game improvement irons all over the place - in fact, I recently got a set - and if I can remember to let the clubs do the work, they work pretty well indeed.
But, what about the other half of the equipment equation - the ball itself?
For golfing newbies, or for people like me, where circumstances have dictated a reworking of my game - what's the best "game improvement" ball? Or, is there such a thing?
It sort of boils down to "each their own". The variances in balls are almost infinite and what works and feels good for one mid to high handicapper might not be the same for another. Then you might have a price point that limits you some what. The best advise I can give you is try a number of them and find one that is right for you......Of course next year it probably won't be available
For some, game improvement mgiht mean, LOW SPIN SO I DON'T SLICE SO MUCH. For me, game improvement means. HIGH SPIN TO HOLD THE HARD GREENS I PLAY ON. Two completely different ends of the spectrum. What are YOU looking for? ME? I don't fight a slice or hook, I play on extra hard greens that don't hold well. so I play a high spin Tour Ball. I get long drives, and my approach shots have a chance of holding the greens with the higher spin rate.

What I'm looking for personally is distance from a medium speed swing.
Newbies who are more prone to hooks & slices would probably like a distance ball that also fights hooks & slices... so "long & straight" .
Bob. try the Wilson "Gamer". I tried it and it's the best ball I've ever tried for the price. Only costs around $20 a dozen. It's long and I got decent spin with it. Can't beat it for the price.

MY mistake, it is the TopFlite Gamer, not a Wilson. Sorry about that.
Billyg. If you like the NXT, you should try the Gamer. I've tried both of the new NXT balls, the NXT and the NXT Tour. and the Gamer is better than both of them. and it's less money.
i use the nike pd soft myself. i like the over all feel of it. although i like the pd long or pd stright or the nike super far (which i've only ever found on the course or in a box of used balls) for driving. may not make much of a diff there but it does seem i get a little more distence with those balls. but over all from driving to chipping and putting i like the pd soft.
also another good ball to use are found balls for when you have that shot that you want to try to make over the pond or somewhere else you may lose the ball. cuz if you make that hole in one with the pond then you didn't lose money and you can be like all well lets lay it up no biggie.
you may think I'm crazy, but the Pinnacle balls are great starter golf balls. They all have low spin and there is also a Pinnacle that has some what of softness to it. They're some what cheap, so I'd give them a look.
