I was just wondering what some of you guys use to clean your clubs after a round, or just to keep them nice and spiffy. I have heard that some guys use products such as windex, goo gone, or just warm water. Please give me your opinion on what you think I should use or what you guys use.
Hot soupy water and a nylon brush. Dish detergent works very well as it's made to cut grease, which is what your grips get coated with from the oil in your hands. Especially good for cleaning your grips. I use a 6 inch nylon brush as it's a lot faster and easier than a tooth brush would be.
I have a small wire brush which I use with just a bit of water to clean the grooves and a fibre brush to clean the rest of the "woods" and irons. Haven't run into anything in recent years that required more than this.
I use one of those gimmicky double head brushes (wire brush on one side and regular bristle brush on the other). I keep it on my golf bag and just brush the grooves between use, I'm particular that way! Depending on how often I golf, I'll take them and actually scrub them to make them like new again :)
well i'll use one of the double sided brushs on the course. and when i feel i need to clean them better i take some dish soap and water and scrub them with a washcloth by hand. havn't had a problem with the grips getting bad yet so we'll see about that when the time comes.
metnorm; If you have all black grips, you might not notice them getting dirty. I have black and red grips, and the red parts show up the dirt much faster, and it's easy to tell when it's time to clean them. You might be surprised at how much dirt will come off your grips when they LOOK clean. Try cleaning ONE grip and see what you find.
I soak mine a few minutes in the pond in our back yard, then wipe them off with a rag. Never thought about cleaning the grips. I'm not that fastidious.
Golf Gal. What about cleaning the grips? You need to cleand the grips too.
hmmm.....Well I'm not sure. I've just been wiping them clean with a cloth and water. Esp. when you're playing golf in the dampness of the early morning hours, setting the clubs down get wet and sometimes even muddy. Hmm......how do you go about cleaning the grips?
A club cleaning set that came with a free subscription to a golf magazine. It included a wire and plastic brush, club cleaner, grip cleaner, and polish.
On the course, I try to wipe my club with a wet towel (and sometimes a wire brish) after every shot. To do this where I play, it's key to hit a good shot to maintain the pace of play. I actually think that the habit of cleaning my clubs after every shot has helped me get better. It's forced me to focus enough to make a good shot, anyways....
And by the way: the wire brush (for irons) is money. More important than the soap/cleaner, I think.
