A few technical questions. Im back at it after 8 years.

The past 3 months ive been hitting the links again after a bitter divorce. I grew up playing the game and was once quite a good player, now im ****. Game was ruined when my high school coach, who would constantly berate me with harsh criticism and eventually told me i wasnt welcome back on the team, ruined it for me. (i was running track and on golf team and he essentially made me pick)

The game has change A LOT since i was a freshman in highschool and i have a few questions.

1. Ive noticed hybrid irons are everywhere. I assume they are more forgiving and add some distance. What are they benefit/disadvantages of a hybrid? from observation it looks like its the loft is greater but with the added weight u can still get similar distance with easy of hitting a higher loft?

2. When i left the game graphite shafts were the trend. ive always liked the feel of my graphite burners but i played my friends steel shaft slingshots and was hitting the ball with more accuracy, but with less distance. Is there any distinguishable difference between the 2 types of shaft asides from preference?

3.whats the difference between an iron set vs a tour iron set?

thanks in advance, i appreciate the time.

Be sure while making comparisons that you are using similar lofts. Hybrids are much easier to get up in the air compared with long irons and are versatile from a variety of lies.

Yes steel shafts are a bit more harsh feeling than graphite and are typically a bit more accurate. With many graphite shafts the flex can be a somewhat weaker than comparable steel. Oftentimes graphite shafts are installed a bit longer in irons to meet swing weight requirements and this can effect overall distance when comparing with standard steel.

The tour iron set has better playability. That is to say that it will have characteristics that more accomplished players can take advantage of but less skilled would find little game improvement from. Some of the features are: compact heads, thinner soles, thin top line, and less apparent cavity back. This feature set allows better control of the golf ball and enhanced feel for the player that can use spin to improve his shot quality.
