Hey everyone i was curious what others opinions were on a 5 wood vs 2 Hybrid, ive never owned a 5 wood so im not sure which to buy, i asked for a hybrid for xmas but not sure if its the best choice.
Personally I like the 5 wood. They feel more balanced and less head-heavy than a hybrid, and the bigger sole is easier makes it hit off the fairway. I'm not a hybrid guy, and if you hit your long irons well then pick the fairway wood.
5 wood all the way...for me it is much easier to hit consistently...never really did figure the attraction of a hybrid over a fairway wood, but can see them over a long iron...I use one for the three iron slot but will occassionally play around it and hit a hard 4 or a choked down 5 wood...not a real big fan of hybrids...
It's a personal thing with hybrids. Some golfers hit them okay and others don't. For me, I don't hit them very well, so I carry fairway woods, and not hybrids. YOU should TRY BOTH, and see what YOU hit the best.
I've always been able to hit the high numbered woods (now metals) and the long irons. For some reason the hybrids have never worked as well for me. So I usually have a choice between a long iron and a fairway wood.
I'm a new golfer...have been playing since the spring of 09. I have tried a 17* Hybrid and currently in love with a TM 5 Wood-- it goes straight and true.
The 17 Hybrid is now in the closet awaiting it's fate sooner or later.
I gotta say, the 5 wood is a gem.
I pack the 5 wood and my irons (3-pw, sw)and off I go.
Someday, I play with the used 3 wood I purchased. But, that's another story...when I get the time.
I'm still searching for "my clubs"

Yeap, 5 wood all the way.
I finally got to try out some hybrids the other day and decided to stick with woods. I'm now looking for a high-loft 7 and/or 9 wood. I'm new and those big heads/bigger sole is what I need to make contact and get the ball in the air.
Got to go 5 metal all the way....at least for me. However, a friend of mine has an Adams Tight lies and I am always aking to use it when I need to.....GREAT club. Other than that I have not used any Hybrids I was that impressed with, but I also hit my long irons very well so I have never been that interested....sorry, I am probably not that much help.
So I went back to golftown and tried out a Callaway X series 5 wood and I crush it, 245 dead straight beautiful club thanks for everyones advice helped me avoid a big mistake, now I only wish I had bought the matching 3 wood!

245 yard 5 wood, huh?
The one thing nobody has mentioned yet is that the 5 wood will have a longer shaft and a flatter lie angle than a hybrid with the same loft. In theory that would make it easier to hit. I think a lot of people have a problem as to whether to put an iron or a wood swing on a hybrid, and that is why they tend to not hit them well.
Either way, it's all irrelevant. It's a matter of personal preference.

Remember, he hits his driver 320 yards dead straight. If he could putt he would be on the tour.
It is like the ad for Stuffing. Do you like stuffing or potatoes. My answer is both. If you carry two wedges instead of three then you have room at the long end of the bag. Put both in. There are times you want the 5 wood, and there are times you want the hybrid.
