Re: Buying equipment online

I've bought several items from 3BallGolf and been very satisfied. I've also bought a few new clubs (and a set of used Ping irons) on eBay, all honest and above board. I've made a number of buys of "vintage equipment" (wooden shafts) and added to my collection of US coins on eBay. I have had several bad experiences in both areas, but having the transactions go through PayPal provided a resolution system and every case worked out to my satisfaction. I didn't lose a dime on anything.

Re: Buying equipment online

I have yet to personally buy anything off ebay but I've watched both my stepsons do it and whenever I get to it I'll most definitely use paypal. They had sellers not come through but they didn't lose anything....BECAUSE paypal saved them.

My driver and 5 wood were from ebay. Both were brand new and we saved $250 with the driver and $100 on the wood. And I like to find legit stores that sell on ebay as well. I just feel a little safer that way but you MIGHT not get the real big savings by doing that.

I also plan in the near future to buy a club or two from valuegolf. They sell some brands that I've come to really like and don't see anywhere else.

Re: Buying equipment online

I have to agree with 3 balls golf.....It is Dick's Sports outlet store and very reputable in my opinion. I have delt with them only once, but all was good. I have also bought sticks from Callaway Pre-owned and been very satisfied.

I use Ebay alot, but you need to know what you are doing and what to look for dealing on Ebay. With that being said....the best deals out there are on Ebay.

Hope we all help.......The Back 9

Re: Buying equipment online

Buying from a big box store is a horrible way to purchase golf equipment, It basically is a one size fits all system. Find a good fitter even online is better than dicks. He can work with you and get you set up with equipment which will work for you not agaainst you; Remember the big Name companies are in it for a $$. They rely on hype advertising which gulable customers swallow up. Dont think the clubs the pro's play would be anything but a disaster for your game. Get Something which will work for you and forget the NAME BRAND HYPE.

I agree with Ken's statement, that you would be better served to get fit for your equipment and they should be as "independent" as possible. They should not be tied to a certain manufacturer. I personally believe the head of the club should fit your eye and the shaft is the most important aspect to fit your swing. More expensive does not mean better.

If you are looking for good golf buys online, I have had success with the following stores on eBay in addition to eBay itself
3 Balls Golf
Rock Bottom Golf
Golf Etail
UsedGolfOutlet
TheGolfStorm
TheGolfHabit

In the Hole Golf is also good.

Re: Buying equipment online

Callaway pre-owned is an awesome site for used clubs - they carry most major brands, not just Callway. And, speaking from experience, their ratings of their club's condition is totally honest and dead-on accurate. Cost-wise, they can be a little above average to a little pricey, but watch for sales and they become a good deal.

And yes, eBay has some good deals, but be careful - a lot of counterfeit clubs are sold there... just use common sense - if the deal for a new set of clubs seems to good to be true, it probably is. Also, as mghtx stated, always use PayPal on eBay - that way you have some protection built in, in case you never receive what you bought, or if the clubs turn out to be misrepresented in description, condition, etc.

Re: Buying equipment online

I like ebay. Where else can you get a bang driver for 50 bucks and a nice old set of Ping irons for different 50 bucks.
I bought stuff from Louisville golf(only one to still make wood woods), golfsmith and a small club maker in Wisconsin. They were all good.
