Steel shaft vs Graphite shaft

Most golfer would think Steel shaft are more consistent for your irons than graphite shaft.
Well, I just re-shafted my irons from True Temper Dynalite Gold SL steel shaft to Aldila graphite. My first impression with Aldila graphite:

First I don't see see any changes in consistency or have more bad shots than when I had steel shafts.

Second some might say that graphite can weaken the feel when you hit good shots. To be honest, I feel better with graphite shaft when I really hit the sweet spot of my irons. It gives very light feel on impact (not butter feel like forged irons).

Third, I got more distance with graphite shaft than with steel. The ball goes higher and it goes forever.....

Forth, some had said to me, graphite is for slower swinger. Well my 5 iron swing speed is 90 Mph. Still I get many benefits from Graphite shaft.

Any inputs is appreciated....

Good for you! Go with it. The shaft is the next most important part of the equation to the swing and it is very individual.

Re: Steel shaft vs Graphite shaft

Which is BETTER is a matter of what works for each golfer. On average, steel shafts are better for most golfers, but not ALL. Glad you like your new shafts. Which Aldila shaft did you get?
And your 90 MPH 5 iron speed is quite high. My driver speed is 105-108 MPH, but my 5 iron is closer to 80, 85 on good swing days.at most.

Re: Steel shaft vs Graphite shaft

I remember hearing a few years ago that the graphite shafts would give you about five yeards more in distance, but that there was more variation in distance versus the steel shaft.

Re: Steel shaft vs Graphite shaft

A golfer could get more distance playing graphite shafts in his iron, BUt only if their were to get more clubhead speed by using them. And my testing has snown NO increase is swing speed from using lighter weight shafts. This may not be true for all golfers, but it's what I've seen in my testing over the past 4 years or so using a Swing Speed Radar unit to measure swing speeds
