Taylormade Penta TP

It's still a few weeks away before the snow melts but thought I'd look for any opinions on the new Taylormade Penta ball. I played the TP-Red last year and liked it so much I stocked up on a few dozen when they went on sale last fall, but I'm looking forward to giving the Penta a try this spring.

Has anyone had the oppertunity to play with these new 5-Layer balls yet?

NO, I've been trying to get some in for testing from TaylorMade but haven't had any success. Let me know what you think of them and how they compare to the TP Reds. I just picked up 3 dozen of the Reds fors for $9.97 a box. Couldn't past up the price. Don't need more balls but for that price I had to get them.

Yes. I was part of a trial group last September at The Hacker's Paradise. As soon as the TM Penta TP is available here it will become my preferred ball. I found that it performed every bit as well as any other premium ball I've tried, and better in some aspects. Unlike other Tour caliber balls, it works as well on full shots for a 90 mph swing as it does for a 110 mph swing.

It lets the average player drive the normal distance he would with a distance ball, but without having to sacrifice greenside performance of a urethane ball. It will be priced in the same range as the Pro V1, but I found it to be an all around better ball. A couple of my friends have also tried it, and they liked it a lot too.

Thanks 4Putt!
Sounds like you really liked them. My swing speed bounces around 107 to 110 depending how I'm feeling and swinging that day. I did a lot of testing in my own game a couple years back with the ProV1, ProV1x, TP-Red, and TP Black. Were all different but I could just never get the right blend of distance and spin with the Titleist balls. The Prov1 went a little shorter and spun a little too much on approach shots. The Prov1x had the right amount of spin for approach shots and the distance overall was good as long as I was swinging well that day and compressing it good but on days I wasn't it was shorter in distance than the Taylormade balls. The TP-Red ball gave me the right amount of spin and just fit better in my swing speed range for maximizing overall distance.

I'm looking forward to trying out the Penta this spring. If they have improved on the performance of thier prior TP balls with the Penta then my son may end up with my stash of TP-Red's.

Breakpar; I'm with you on the TP balls. The TP red and blacks were the longest balls when Golf Magazine tested them all a year or so ago. I perfer the TP Black myself due to the higher spin it gives me and the hard greens we have in Colorado. But either one is long and hard to beat for a tour quality ball.
