Driver Shaft Flex

My driver swing speed is about 80mph. I have a Cleveland Launcher 460 volume driver with a std. flex shaft. Will a Senior Flex shaft give me more driver distance??

Re: Driver Shaft Flex

Great question. I want to know too. All these companies seem to use different systems. An "S" on one shaft might mean something else on another.

I'd like to try a senior flex myself.

The "S" on your shaft denotes stiff which really would not normally be recommended for an 80mph swing speed with a driver. You're on the right track with a senior shaft. If you bought the stick at a big box store after a swing speed analysis. I would complain to the management if they recommended it to you.

Re: Driver Shaft Flex

Get a true Senior one that is rated 70-80 Mph then you will gain the distance and the ball will feel real sweet coming off the Club Face.

Re: Driver Shaft Flex

I'd go with a senior flex. At your swing speed you'll get more distance and control.

Re: Driver Shaft Flex

MOST likely you would gain some distance with an A flex shaft. And MOST likely you would gain some distance with a driver with a 12* head. What loft is the Cleveland you got? Anything less than 12* might be too little for your swing speed.
Doesn't your shaft have an S morked on it? If it does, it's a Stiff flex not a Standard flex, Don't know of ANY shafts that are marked as Standard, They are marked with an R for Regular, or S for Stiff. Sounds like you might have an Stiff flex shaft if it's got an S on it.

Re: Driver Shaft Flex

I recently picked up a Hippo Hex 2 Driver from Rock Botton Golf for $48.72 so I could try a 12 degree Driver without spending alot of cash before I switch to the higher loft. Funny thing is it has a good Mitsubi Rayon Shaft and a bigger sweet spot than my FT-i. I had a few people hit it at the range all of then had FT-i's and FT-iq's which they were bombing and they said the same thing. Actually I thought I could use it as a 2 wood from the fairway. But you can only carry 15 and right now around here there are no fluffy lies. I will wait till I can get some grass under the ball tp tri it out even if just for fun for now.

Re: Driver Shaft Flex

Bob: If you decide you like a 12* driver, give me a yell. I'll got a Cleveland HiBore XL with 11.5* head you might like. It has the factory Fit on Gold A flex shaft in it at the moment, but that could be changed out if it's now what you like.

Re: Driver Shaft Flex

I appreciate the offer but right now after getting 5 new Hybrids and that 12 degree Hippo Driver to test the Wife will be very upset. As she said when does it all end. But this what happens when you have very expensive clubs that are too stiff. I do need the lighter regulars or even stiffer A shafts. Shafts rated 80-90 mph work best for me. It was a shame that unknown to me many of my regular shafts were rated 85-95mph and even 90-100. How was I to know buying them off the rack and not doing research once I figured it out it was too late to return them and I got burned real bad on trade ins.

Oops on the post above I meant you can only carry 14 Clubs.
