Titleist has posted specs of their upcoming hybrid club at their Web site (www.titleist.com). It will come in two lofts: 19* and 22*. Shaft options will be Dynamic Gold steel or Aldila NV hybrid graphite shafts. I believe they will be in retail October 1. Definitely looking forward to trying them out. I've been looking to swap my 3 iron out with a hybrid club. If I like it enough, I'll probably add a hybrid as a 2 iron.
that heavenwood looks alot like a small headed fairway wood, so in many ways it is actually something along the lines of an old fairway wood, i.e. one with a much smaller head
Victory,
I assume you are a good golfer. I demo'd their Titleist hybrid last Friday night and love them! I'd say the 19 degree is like a 2 or 3 iron and the 22 degree is a 4 or 5 iron. Or at least that's how it played for me.
I don't think you can go wrong with them. The only thing I don't like is the $225 price. Yikes. You can buy a driver for this price.

how did you feel the titleist hybrid compare to the taylor made hybrids?
The Titleist hybrid was easier to hit, felt solid, sounded great, and "provided feed" at impact. The distance was fairly consistent. As I've stated in another post, I hit 40 or so balls with the hybrid. I loved them after 4 shots. I didn't even warm up beforehand.
I wasn't swinging well to begin with on Taylor Made Demo day. Not turning my shoulders properly. So keep this in mind when reading my review. The TM Rescue weren't that forgiving or as forgiving as I'd like. The feedback feel was so-so. Given the price with the Rescue and how I was hitting them, I won't consider them in the future. I just hit 15 of them and I wanted to stop. I wanted to hit the Titleist all night long, but the Titleist demo day was winding down.
I just like the appearance a lot more at address with the Titleist. I personally think a hybrid/utility club should look more like an iron rather than a fairway wood. If I could hit fairway woods well, then I wouldn't need a hybrid as bad as I need one now for my game.
I'd get mine in steel, so it would only be $185 for me. I prefer steel over graphite in fairway woods and hybrids. My driver will end up being my only club with graphite.
I just demoed the Titleist this weekend, and I didn't like it - here's my review:
PREFACE: The world has been talking about the new Titleist Hybrid. I really wanted to like this club, but my experience was very disappointing. Perhaps I wasn't swinging well that day………
APPEARANCE: This club looks like an oversized iron with a large carbon-fiber back on it. At address, and sitting in a golf bag, it is much more traditional, and not nearly as bulky as other hybrids. I liked the look of it, but it would be nice to see some additional polish or color to the club.
FEEL/PERFORMANCE: (sigh) I didn't like it. I was slicing many balls, couldn't seem to make solid contact, and could not get good results from this club at all. Some people seem to really like this club, but I didn't. I put it back in the barrel, and had fun demoing their many 983K drivers instead.
SUMMARY: The jury 's still out on this one - I may test it again sometime, but I did not enjoy this club at all.

Slicing huh? Is it possible you didn't have the clubhead square? I do that a lot with hybrids. It just seems so hard to close the have enough. Just curious.

Unfortunately, I don't know what the problem was?!
I have a Hogan Hybrid that sits very square, with virtually no offset, and I can hit it just fine. I can hit many other hybrids (Nike, TaylorMade, Sonartec, etc.) just fine, but the Titleist was just NOT cooperating, I'm not sure why?
SamT,
What degree were you demoing and which shaft? If you have a tendency to slice/fade, then steel shaft is harder to hit (in my estimation). Also the Aldila NV stiff is hard to hit in 19 degree. I loved the 22 degree Titleist shaft regular. But for some reason, I don't see Titleist offering this option now! I'm a little bummed. I may have to go for the 22 degree Aldila NV regular. BTW, I found the 22 degree much easier to hit than the 19 degree (not sure how much the different shaft combinations affected this).
One very interesting point about hybrids in general is the different approaches by the golf manufacturers. A small few are making their hybrids look like an iron (traditionalists and control) and most are making theirs look like a fairway wood. Some are better at making a mix between the two.
Some have color and designs, some don't. I personally find the designs and color of the hybrid club head a distraction (ie. Nike CPR).
It will be interesting to see how this all shakes out. But I do think next year will be the year of the hybrids. Golf manufacturers are drooling over a new source of revenue.
