Callaway HX Tour

Has anyone tried these balls in comparison to the Pro V1's? I bought two dozen Pro V1's a while back and am down to my last sleeve so I'm going to be in the market for new balls pretty soon. I'm thinking of trying the HX Tour out. I tried the HX Red before but liked the Pro V1's better. So I guess I want to know the following:

1. What are the differences between the HX Red and the HX Tour?
2. How does the HX Tour compare to the Pro V1?

Both the HX Red and the HX Tour are three piece balls and both have hexagon dimples, hence the name HX. The difference between the HX Red and the HX Tour is that the Tour has a thinner urethane cover and this allows for a larger core. This results in similar distance but greater feel and control.

I haven't tried the HX Tour myself but like you, I tried the HX Red and preferred the Pro V1 to it. I would imagine I would like the HX Tour better than the HX Red because it offers the same distance but more feel. I'd say it's worth trying out at least a sleeve to figure out if you like it from personal experience.

funny story. it's kind of unrelated to whether or not the hx tour is a good ball or not but i thought i'd tell it. i played with a pro v1 today and i hit my 2nd shot on a par 5 into the rough today and had trouble finding my ball. when i finally did, i set off to the side and took a practice swing. out popped up a precept ev senior ball. the rough was so deep i couldn't even see the ball. well, i lost my pro v1 the next hole and decided to play with the senior ball and played better with it. i even reached a 474 yard par 4 in 2 with a drive and a 3 iron into the green. needless to say, you can be playing with a great ball and a bad swing and someone will do better with a great swing and a "bad" ball. :D

This is true. Not everyone should play a ball like the HX Tour. It would be a waste of money when they could use just about any ball and get virtually the same results. When half of your shots go OB, there's no real need to have a ball that can spin on the greens. Might as well go with the cheapest option.
