Just read an article in the latest Golfweek, that Nike is coming out with a new ball called Nike One Platinum. "Nike says the One Platinum is the first ball designed to maximize performance of large-headed drivers". Well at a MSRP $54.00 dozen do not think I will be trying them out anytime soon. The Availability for these is May.
Tiger has been playing them for a little while - maybe since Doral - but they were 'unofficial' There is another thread in here somewhere with a link to an interview with the guy that designed them
I'm not a big fan of big drivers... 300cc is plenty if not too much. As for the MSRP $54 price, I doubt it will be that and will come out at $40. Titleist lists all their MSRP's around $54 and they always show up around $40.
May try a sleeve when they come out to just see how they are off my Launcher 460. BDR444 you are probably right about the price almost always the MSRP is higher that street price.
I think they just say that just so more people will buy them thinking "Hey, I have a big driver, I better buy this ball" My driver is only 300cc, and I bet the ball plays good no matter what the head size of the club head.

The article in GolfWeek stated that "Tiger has used a Platinum prototype this year and through six events, averaged 305 yards off the tee." I do not think Tiger is using a large-headed driver, oh-well maybe us mere mortals can hit it almost as far.

???? He is using a 460cc Nike Ignite Driver.
And I don't think it will make us hit it as far as Tiger - probably further as we can control our swings and not try and hit it too hard all the time
anyone who is using a 300 cc and lower driver I am guessing those drivers are relatively old (compared to waht has come out the past 3 or 4 years). I read an article somewhere that old drivers work best with old balls, new drivers work best with new balls, and that mixing and matching the two provide the worst results. Even using an old driver and an old ball is better than using a new driver and an old ball or a new ball and an old driver. So the new Platinum probably wouldn't do good with any of the older drivers you guys use. ( I am just assuming they are "older" because they are so much smaller than the average head used right now )
I can definitely see that the new ball technology is 'geared' toward new drivers but it is interesting if they say using an old driver would be detrimental.
I can't seem them ijcnreasing the head/cor/cc size any time soon as there is already so much debate over it. I don't see why there is any need for technological advances these days anyway - I guess if you don't you fall behind - but the limits must almost be reached for most equipment.
Why are there no tech advances in grips anyway????
Even though my driver is five years old, and I'm assuming like you say theres probably would be to, the distance loss couldn't be anything more than 10 yards anyway. Plus who said we tee off with our drivers that often anyways?
