How to start the backswing

Well, lately I've been tensing up in front of the ball at address and can't seem to start my backswing with a natural rhythm. What's a good way to break the tension. I tried waggling the club but when i come to a stop it's tension all over again.

As you walk up to the ball hold on so tight you can't stand it and then as you start the swing let go of the tension.

Good Luck

Good Luck

I also heard this but tried it and felt like after I squeezed so tight I had no feeling in my hands for the shot!

I've tried this at times and find it's a very good way for me to get rid of tension. Good post. Something else that I think we should all have, most of the pro's do, I think, is some little thing that we do every time, to trigger the backswing motion. It should be in your pre-shot routine and can be something like a movement so slight it isn't even noticeable to anyone. I think Jack Nicklaus turns his head ever so slightly to the right. But it could just be something like counting to 3 and on 3 you start. Hope this helps and best of luck.

This is something that has worked the last couple times that I have played. Press the hands forward just a bit to start the movement of the backswing. If i am not mistaken some of the pros use this method, like I said only tried the last couple times I played but did help to get more of a fluid motion. Hope this helps and good luck to all and happy golfing.

I take a deep breath and start the backswing once I am done exhaling.
