Full Wedge Shots

I'm great with 10-35 yard shots with my LW (half shots) and decent with my SW in the 50-55 yard range, anything outside this leaves me uncofortable. I'm forced to take half shots with the PW (full 115 as u can huge gap 55-115) in which i feel i can't control distance and my accuracy leaves everything to be desired (but i guess i'd rather be on the green with a 25 footer than 10 yards short, or 5 yards right/left/long than 10 yards left). So, i was wondering if their is any secrets or any drills for hitting these wedges, because i feel that with the rest of my irons and distances that i should easily hit that 53* 80-90 with accuracy and my 60* in the 60 range. O i forgot to say that when i do do try full swings they just balloon or have tons and tons of loft and actually lose 10 yards over my half shots.

If you are ballooning a full swing SW, you are not delofting the club. Make sure your hands get ahead of the club at impact. Hopefully that will trim up the gap from 55 to 115 yards, as that is one **** of a gap. But you know this. Good luck.

I agree with surreal. Get your hands out in front and really hit down on them. Really go after them. That's a heck of a problem to have ... being good with the touch shots and shaky with the full ones. Usually it's the opposite. That's why they sell so many different wedges. Good luck. Also, and you better players correct me if I'm off-base here, once in awhile I get get my body & head out in front of the ball and I'll hit a short pop-up right with a wedge.

Yea, i'm great with the LW around the green because i usually hit about 50 chips a day with it so, it has become a part of me and i think that flop shots are my favorite shot in all of golf... so much so that they get me in trouble when a pitch and run would be a viable and often better result but w/e. i'll work on that. I also have another quick ? i forgot to put that many people say i swing really hard from one hundred yards and in could this have some sort of effect on trajectory and distance?

You could be overswinging, but swinging hard with your wedge isn't necessarily a problem in itself, but it could be part of some other problem. Try cutting down your backswing and hit down & through to a full finish.

Try this for your wedges. At address your hands should be just in front of the ball with the ball in the center or slightly back in your stance. I widen my stance just enough so that it becomes more of a body rotation and a tight coiling on the backswing. I favor the left side with my weight a little bit to hit down on the ball real good. Hit down into the back of the ball with the clubface returning your hands to the same position as at address. The faster you release the hands and body the more spin you put on the ball (use a spin ball if spin is your thing) Change the distance the ball goes by gripping up or down on the grip for different length shots. Never swing your gut out with the short irons- they are for accuracy not distance. If you want a higher shot play the ball forward in your stance a little bit and open the face a little; if you want a lower flight play it back in your stance more. Keep your head glued to the ball until your shot pulls your head up. I can make the shot and never move my head at all until 3/4 thru the shot. Steady head, fast release=lots of spin.

I got out on the course today and i tried swinging my arms through and letting my body follow and this let me control my trajectory. I was more confortable with the LW on full shots and i can hit a full wing about 65 yards now, but still had some trouble with accuracy and the sw was still uncomfortable, but i know this will come with time because today i didnt have time to practice full wedge shots other than on the course. My accuracy was hammpered a little by about 40 mph winds and then i lost focus it started snowing and my grips got wet and i got cold (wearin shorts LOL)
