Anywhere inside the Circle ?

My dad said when your ball is on the fairway and you want to clean it , you can mark where the ball was with a marker , tee , etc

Can you do this anywhere

And do you put the ball anywhere in a little circle of the marker

Another question - On the course i seem to do alot more miss hits than on the practise range , any ideas on why

Thanks

Unless the tournament committee has determined that conditions are so bad that "lift, clean, and place" rules are in effect, you may not mark your ball and clean it except on the putting surface.

When playing for fun, you can do any darn thing you want to do with the ball, but I suggest practicing the way you would ordinarily play--by the rules.

The idea of marking the ball is to return it to exactly the same place it was before marking it. There is no precise direction for how to accomplish that, but the marker is usually placed directly behind the ball. When the ball is replaced, it should be put down before the marker is removed.

Mis-hits on the course occur because of the differing lies that one encounters in real play and the pressure of trying to produce a good score on a hole. It is amazing what a little pressure will do to one's swing and grip pressure!
