I cannot hit a driver very well at all. I started playing golf 3 years ago. I have a high handicap but hit this 4 wood strait and long consistently. I get strange reactions at the driving range. 3 people measured my longest today at 315 yards.
I consistently hit my 4 wood 300+ yards off the tee. Is this normal?
Depending on your size, strength and technique, I would not say this is abnormal, very long yes, but not abnormal. As far as your ability to hit your driver well, you may need to look at the shaft. If you can generate the clubhead speed with a 4 wood to reach 300 yds, you may need a much stiffer, low torque shaft in your driver to cotrol the ball. List your club and shaft types in here and let's see what you have.
Is that 4-wood one of those 7-degree loft 4-woods? Hank Keuhne couldn't hit a 4-wood that far consistently so, sorry, but you MUST be abnormal. All I can say is to straighten out your driver and you're a lock for the long-drive circuit. Good luck!
I would say that is extremely abnormal. I mean when the longest hitters on tour are averaging drivers 300...I don't see how a 4 wood 300 yards could be considered anywhere near normal. You'd have to have like a 150 mph clubhead speed or something HUGE like that.
I guess if you say so, but most things I've read about the swing suggest different. I mean I have a 117 mph club head speed and I hit it about 285 average. I just don't see it possible to do with a club that is going to have 16 or 17 degrees of loft.
16 or less maybe. 17 degrees is what my 5 wood is, and off the tee it is longer than you might think. 285 may be your average, but I am willing to bet you have had your fair share of 300+ yd. drives.
Well yeah, I can overswing and get it out there. I don't know. I guess its possible...I'm not one to call someone a liar, just thought it sounded "abnormal".
