Unhappy tips on hitting half shots or 3/4 shots

so your between 60-30 yards off the green and u have SandWedge. how do u first judge distance? and secondly how do u hit the ball solidly on half shots?
i seem to chunk alot of 60 yard approach shots and its really hurting my score.
any help would be greatly appreciated! thanks in advance.

Wish I could help ya! I seem to get the correct yardage I want but I pull it left for some reason. I would say bring ya SW to the driving range and just work on those distances. Thats what I did and Knowing that my tendacy is to pull left I aim a little right, find what works for you and stick with it!

just feel the shot. stay loose. imagine it as throwing a ball the same yardage. you don't have to think about it, you just do it and with practice you get better.

as far as chunking, you may not be getting your lower body through. if the lower body stays stationary, you will probably hit behind the ball. flow with the shot.

When I hit a 1/2 or 3/4 shot with my wedges I will usually choke down on the club a bit. It helps me control the distance and avoid hitting the shot fat.

Best Advice...go and buy DAvid Pelz Short game bible... Basically walks you thru the entire process...basically each wedge you own...you have a 7 oclock 9 oclock and 10:30 swing...thats how far your left arm goes back.. the 9 oclock being straight back... If you own a LW SW AW PW...thats 12 different distances with each position...for example a LW at 7..might carry 30 yard..at 9..45 yards and thje 10:30 ..55 yards...etc etc...great book to buy!

For me that's like a 55* wedge. I will just as someone said feel the shot. I will take a practice swing until I feel that the swing matches what dstance I need.(kinda visualize the shot if you will!) Works for me!

Always think a shot ahead. When you're on the last shot before your approach shot, leave yourself with 90 yards or 100 yards, so you can make a full sand wedge shot and you don't have to worry about half shots or 3/4 shots.

Or go to the putting green/driving range and practice these shots, and get a feel for how far back you have to swing to get the ball to go a certain distance.

Depends on the lie of the ball, the flag position, etc... Always look at these factors first. For me, I use my PW because it's my lowest Nike & Forged club, because 1)I feel very confident that my contact will be clean[small club head], 2) it won't roll too far[the loft], 3)the 'feel' is there[forged club]. If I had better wegdes, then it would probably be different.
I still **** at this game(shoot 100's w/ occasional 90), so I am experimenting a lot. Like if I need extra spin or height - I'll go with my lob wedge. Chipping downhill - sand wedge. These are just what I've practiced and am becoming comfortable with. I guess I'm more of a feel player as opposed to technical - nothing against people who play "swing to 9:00, 10:30, etc." It's just too technical for me.
