whats wrong

Hi,

Most of the time when I use my driver I hit it fairly straight, but every once in awhile I will hit it straight and then it goes to the right or left. Or it just completely starts going to the left, but still in the air pretty good. Whenever I hit it right it is always straight then sorta curves right. Does anyone know wat I am doing wrong when this happens? I would really appreciate it so that I take out those every now and then hooks or slices lol.

Man if you find the answer to that question you'll be the first. That's just golf, a couple of good shots wrapped around a lot of bad ones. Consider this, your average pro will tell you in a round of golf he or she hits maybe 2 or 3 shots the way they wanted. But to try to answer your question, if you are hitting good shots then letting a few get away it could be a balance, tempo or concentration problem. I like to aim at a target in the distance and try to hit the target. Some other golfers will pick out a target just in front of the ball and try to hit the ball over the object. Work on your balance and tempo and you should see few errant shot. Good luck

If it curves, its likely to be hooks & slices, if straight, well, thats a different matter, its usually caused by a backswing that is too far around the body,... flat & then a compensation is made, resulting in the hook & or slice. but sometimes also caused by the follow through that is taken too. can be down to the wrong grip too... a lot of factors might be combined. But if its only occasionally going adrift & tending to do both, then you might actually be only doing something wrong occasionally... Hey, what do I know... leave it to your golf pro to sort out

I do this too. I start to come over the top, espcially with the shorter irons and driver. You can't expect to hit a good shot everytime, but it can be frustrating when you have a good round going and you pull one left 30 yards into the trees

looks impressive though, when it peels off to the left.... glad I've about cured mine though. just need to cleanly hit the driver with some confidence to go along with my irons now.

your best bet would be to ask a pro or film your swing and post it here.

A big key to your inconsistancy can be your set up routine. I have finally gotten it thru my head that if I repeat the same motions from addressing the ball till I hit it, mentally I program my muscle's to do the same thing over again, it all starts as soon as you put the tee in the groud.

This past weekend I started out driving the ball HORRID, on the 8th and 9th holes I finally decided to put myself into a set routine and BAM!!!, it wroked, my set up after putting the tee into the ground is standing behind the ball and picking out a spot and deciding weather I want to draw or fade the ball..or hit it straight away. I then set up in my address positon with my feet together and check my alignment with my feet, seeing where I am pointing helps me mentally pull off the shot, then I pull my feet away from the center point and set up to the ball and fire away.

Become a ROBOT on the tee box..set up the same way and you can produce the same shots thru muscle and mental memory.
