proper wrist hinge

i have recently been told by one of my friends that i was not hinging my wrists in my backswing and could gain more yardage if i began to. i started doing it with my irons and i make alot better contact, but not that much improvement in distance and i actually lost distance with my driver. i think that i am unhinging my wrists too early, does anybody have any tips/drills to get the proper timing on my downswing?

thanks,

-ben
