I was first introduced to the " Vardon grip " many years ago by the old fellow who was the pro. at the only golf course on the island I grew up on. In exchange for sweeping out the shop and finding golf balls ( for him to re-sell ) and any other duties he would find for me he would give me a shortish 5 iron and let me hit balls. He taught me how to " gently place the club in my hands " and to use the flat " St Andrews " swing, wonderful days indeed.
Has anyone ever changed their grip, for example from neutral to strong or to weak or vice versa ? Has anyone rectified a problem ( slicing or hooking ) by actually changing the position of their hands ? I think very little about my grip these days, I still " gently place the club in my hands " remembering what old Bobby told me, " the tighter you squeeze that grip laddie the worse the result of the shot will be ". Walter Hagen was a great advocate of using soft hands on every shot, and what a great shotmaker he was.
I know I'm in the minority with this, but I went to a ten finger grip. I've got small hands anyway. I found that my hands simply work together much better. A friend of mine suggested that I give it a try. The first 15-20 shots at the range felt awkward, no doubt. But now, I don't feel as tough I need to think as much about weak or strong. It's fairly neutral and feels symmetrical. And, I agree, the hands still have to be soft.
I don't know what the grip is called, but it's where you put your right hand palm over your left thumb. That works for me. I've learned the hard way that it's all in the wrists anyway, so a good grip is important.
That's cool. I'm a pretty decent player with fantastic accuracy but I lack distance. I use an interlap grip and have small hands. I have had several instructors tell me to try an overlap but I've thought about a ten finger. Did it help your distance any?
I adjust my grip to hit different shots, or try to. If I want to hit a draw I'll move my left hand slightly clockwise. I know it's unorthadox, but it works for me.

I dont' know if this would be of help, a buddy of mine years ago had a similar problem re. small hands, he always felt there was a bit of a separation in his hands at the top of the backswing. He had very thin grips put on all his clubs and this was a tremendous improvement for him.
