Anyone been to any golf schools lately. Just wondering good or bad experinces if you have and where. Gonna do one in the spring, thinking about hilton head SC.
Hi BillB and welcome to Golf Rewind, I don't have any Golf School experience to pass along to you, but I'm sure some members have some information they can share with you.
why waste your money? IMO they will tell you a lot more then you can remember and for a lot less money you can take multiple lessons, spaced out at least two weeks, and learn A LOT MORE in the long run. IMO a lesson longer then 1.5 hours is a waste, and 1.5 hours may be pushing it.
I've never taken a personal lesson but I've attended a 4 day golf school and all I'll say is the money I spent on the golf school was the best golf investment I ever made.......or ever will make.
Yes, golf school is an intense learning experience. If you attend with an open mind, follow instructions, take copious notes, and practice diligently when you're finished, you'll get a lot more out of it than a short series of one hour lessons. I know costs vary and some schools can cost thousands of dollars but there are some out there that are much more affordable. I suggest you check them out and weigh your options.

how can you make the assumption that it is better then taking a series of lessons if you have never taken a series of lessons
My wife and I have taken private lessons(admittedly, with the wrong teach,but...) and they are good...but we've decided to attened a school this spring. I believe it can be VERY helpful, especially if their worse coach is better than the best around here. as for the $$, it's all gonna be about the same. I played in a tournament this year with a retired gentleman, who played wonderfully... after asking the "how long you been playin' " regimen of questions, he informed us that it was a week long golf school that made his game. He highly recommended attending an established, proven school. After watching him play..in a driving rain no less, we're getting into one this spring.
I tried a pro teacher when I first started to play, but I spend a loooong time to learn some basic stuff so I found out that my money was better used on a coke to my friend (that happens to be a golfer), hehe.

Are you assuming it's not? If you reread my post you'll see that I included several necessary prerequisites and diligent post golf school practice. I also mentioned a "short series of one hour lessons" which are beneficial to some, but not quite what many others were looking for. Most golfers I've listened to have told me that 3-4 one hour lessons were helpful but just didn't do the trick for them. They were looking for more without being strung out on one hour lessons.
I'm not discounting private lessons. In fact, I'll be taking several of them myself in the Spring. I just found that a credible and reasonably priced 4 day golf school taught me, and those that I know that attended the shool, an awful lot in a short period of time. Some learn better in an intense environment and some learn better by learning in small doses. To each their own. BillB asked for experienced opinions regarding golf schools. My reply was simply that.
Have not the golf school thing, but did take a series of 10 lessons from a good teaching pro. One of the lessons including a round with him. It was supposed to be 9 holes, but we became friends and he had the time. That was an interesting experience. When I would reach for a club, he'd ask, "What are you thinking here...what do want to accomplish with this shot...what do you envision?" I never had to explain club selection before! He knew my game better than I did. It was money well spent.
