Cool new driver

I got the new cleavland 460 for x-mas today, and i am very excited. Its just what i wanted. Im going to the range tomorow with it to see how it is. The only thing im kinda worried about is that it is a 9.5* club. I dont have the fastets swing speed, im about average, and i've seen in other posts that usally a 10* or higher club is best for average swing speed players. Will 9.5* really make a diffrence? Also im planning to keep this club for a long time, and it is hopefully a club i can grow into. What kinda things should i practise at the range with my new driver?

shicaca - I'd suggest that you think about this and come to some conclusion before you take your new driver to the range and hit it. Depending on where and how it was purchased you may be able to exchange it for a higher loft. In general a higher loft [10, 10.5, 11] give people with "average" swingspeeds [85-95 mph] more distance. There are other considerations such as angle of attack that you need to determine. If it was purchased at a store that has a launch monitor they should be happy to give you a few minutes on the LM to determine what's best. Good Luck!

I agree you should hit it before you buy or at least try out a demo club first. I wouldn't be too concerned over the loft in itself but as part of the equation to go with your swing and the shaft characteristics. If it has a hi launch shaft (soft tip) you may do well with a 9.5* . What is your typical ball flight? How far do you typically hit your driver (be honest)? What is your typical shot shape, draw, straight, fade? This could determine the best clubhead/shaft combo for you.

Cleveland makes nice clubs but you shouldn't change your swing to suit a certain club. The club should fit YOUR swing.

At the range simply work on feeling the clubhead through impact and making solid contact with the sweet spot. Look at the trajectory and shot shape with a normal swing and go from there.

Good luck!

I did try all of the name drivers at golfsmith and the cleveland 460 is the one that felt best to me. With my old driver i was only hitting it on average 215, at the range today with my new driver i was hitting it 225 and im very happy. I wasn't hitting the ball low and the distance was great with the 9.5*, so i think ill keep the club. Thanks for the help.

shhhh, don't tell anyone but your 9.5* driver is more like 10-10.5*. I was talking to a Cobra rep a few weeks ago and he told me the new Cobra driver for ladies that's 12* is really 16*. All the manufacturers do it.

heh heh..i got a cleveland 460 comp launcher for christmas too !.. only difference is that i bought it myself as a present to myself for being nice (to myself :P) for the year..

my came with the fujikura shaft , stiff flex (japanese specs) 9.5 degree loft.

the same comments i found ..the ball is high ...

but i did found the weight of the club to be more focused on the butt end instead of the clubhead...so i can't really feel the weight of the head at the backswing , but i supposed it's a matter of getting used to it.. it's really forgiving though...

Cleveland 460

Great stick. I have the 460 as well (the titanium not composit). It is the only club in my bag with an R shaft. Everything else is S. Slow back swing and big finish. Must get those hands out there. The 9.5 will not pose a problem. Because the head is larger than my earlier Mizuno 350 Blue Rage I find it better to align the ball further to the left than the standard.
This club rock the ball. Best of Luck.

took my cleveland comp to the course today ...happy camper when i came back ... was hitting average 230 yards carry ( 1 shot with roll came to be about 260!) I was like .. HUH ? i finally match my playing partners for distance (one using the R5 and the other the Nike ignite 460)

and most of the shots were straight! but a couple of them have a fade towards the end... so i will try to align more to the left than standard as mybluc4 suggested ..

peace!

Cool

Shicaca: Too bad you hit that driver. I'd be willing to bet you $100.00 that if you had gone with a 10.5 or 12* driver, you would have gained another 25 yards or so. You should have listened to Bluehen and tested out a higher loft before you hit any balls with your driver, now you can't exchange it straight up for a higher loft model. Sorry to hear you didn't wait.
