How I turned a slice into a draw!

Just wanted to share this with you all.

I play of 8 and hit a slight fade. When I was younger (I stopped playing golf for 6 years because Uni got in the way!) my natural shot was a draw. Over the past few weeks I have been analysing my swing using my camcorder. I noticed that I was ever so slightly coming over the top - hence, a fade or occasionally a bad slice.

I was given a tip by my Pro and he said try to imagine you are turning around your body not 'up and down'. He also told me to imagine the ball had a clock face on it - 12 o'clock is the furthest point away from your body and the line through 3 o’clock and 6 o'clock is your target line. He told to think of striking the ball at 4 o'clock - this promotes and inside approach to the ball.

Having worked on this for a couple of weeks I am now hitting my draw again. Try it!

Hope this helps someone!

I was told something very similar but the pro used a baseball theme for his advice. He said to imagine that you are in the batters box as a right hander (if your a leftie, reverse everything) and imagine that you are trying to hit the ball to the 1st baseman. That along with making my back straighter (I was slouching my shoulders) and keeping my hands and arms loose seems to pretty much have cure my slice problem. Good advice Kevinabland.

I've got an even simpler way - when you get to the to of your backswing, simply return your right elbow to your right side on your downswing.

I can never figure out how people can even hit a ball with all these thoughts going on in their heads. I apply the KISS approach...

I agree with the concept that you suggest and I have heard that one before, but I found that one very hard to put to use for some reason. I'm not even so sure that I am using any particular swing thought in regards to swinging from inside to out. I am not complaining though, I'm just glad that it seems to be working for me now.

I read in Golf Digest a little side bar that suggested slicers try to hit the ball right. Basically the same as the other tips. I know that when you ball goes right you want to hit left, but that promotes a outside-in swing. That tip and setting up with a draw bias (i line my body up with th target and turn the club face left a bit) has me hitting almost straight. In fact, last week I noticed that one hole on my local course has the men's, women's and kids tees lined up. As I set up I tried to hit directly through the womens and kids tee markers and did! A few months ago that was unheard of.
