HELP! Shaft Too Far In Front At Impact.

Hello everyone, I have a problem. I have been taking lessons and progressing nicely. I have seemed to work all problems out except for one. During my last lesson, I asked my instructor why I keep occasionally push/slice a decent % of shots I hit. He showed and told me it was because the butt-end part of the shaft is too far ahead of the ball at impact. He said that the "shaft/arms should be alligned up straight with the ball at impact, or just slightly , tilted in front of the ball and that is my main problem." He checked me out on a swing analyzer, and my swing path is not over the top, it is inside out. So the problem is not swing path like I thought. I asked him for some drills to promote proper shaft alignment at impact, and he told me to practice slow motion downswing movement and focus on correct alignment of the shaft at impact. I have been doing this, for the past few days along with alot of hitting at the range, and I still hit about 3-4 out of 10 shots to the right. I feel if I could get over this hurdle, my ball striking would improve dramatically. Any Suggestions??

Without going into a long post as I am very busy today I can tell you I see two other reasons that cause this problem...

*Coming back to far in your back swing... Try 10 - 90% swings and see what the return on those are.

*Using to much waist and shoulders in your down swing will put your upper body ahead of the ball at impact and leave your wrist behind. Make sure you start your down swing with your left arm leading the way and try to release your wrists throughout your downswing instead of right before impact. This will allow your whole body to stay in sequence.

Also try both suggestions at once to see if it improves your accuracy more.

Its all a process of elimination.

Your pro is telling you that your timing is off and are releasing too late. Try releasing earlier by trying to hook the ball a little.

What could I use as some cues for this idea. Slow down my swing, start swing with arms first? Do something with my wrists?

It's almost a nice problem to have. Most golfers release the club too doggone early.

I used to have the same problem.Couple of things that I did wrong before ,I held the club too tightly with my hands and I consciecely tried to hold my head down.I think both of those things hold you back from a proper release if your plane is good. Try a little more spine tilt and make sure your head is behind the ball. It worked for me.

You are probably not doing anything wrong, just a little late with your timing. Relaxing your arms and hands is good, starting your release earlier on the down swing.
