I can hit everything... except for my 3 iron. I don't understand it. The 4 irons on down feel almost like the same club with only minor adjustments. But once I get to the 3, it feels really awkward and long. I either hit heavy or top it 99% of the time. I can hit my driver well, too. Any suggestions? Is it all mental or is there really something significantly different about swinging the 3 iron that I'm missing? Thanks for any help.
You're not the only one. Its one of those clubs that alot of people don't carry for that reason. This club can make you a headcase. I've had good luck by setting my hands (I'm right handed) slightly further to the right of my mid-irons at address. Also, sometimes I've found myself not allowing enough distance between myself and the ball, which can also cause chunks and slices.
I can't help you fix your 3i swing but just wanted to say that I can hit the 3i off the tee,
a low liner averaging about 190 yds, but it's nearly impossible off the turf. Go figure!
It looks like the consensus is to compensate with your pocketbook and get a hybrid. I just bought a set of Mizuno Mp-30 irons and so I'm trying to stay under the wife's radar at the moment. I guess I'll just practice till I find something that works.
How far do you hit the 4 iron, and how far do you hit the driver with no roll.
3 iron takes a lot of club head speed to get the ball up in the air. I have a driver swing speed of 110+ and I can get the ball air born fairly easy with the 3 iron, but not as accurate as I want. So I just purchased a hogan hybrid , I am hoping not to gain any distance but just accuracy. It get's here monday.
I picked up the hogan cft Ti hybrid for 106 bucks on golfsmith, can't beat that deal with the 90/90% warranty.
I was in the same boat...I went out and purchased a Cleveland Halo 4i hybrid. That is an awesome club and much easier to hit with. Seeing as I find the heavy stuff (often), this club goes through it much easier than my normal irons.
